FIA have a communication issue

The FIA has a massive communication and common-sense problem with two issues showing during the Japanese GP. Getty Images / Red Bull Content Pool The first major issue was the tractor on track while the cars were still going round and the visibility was minimal, many other series inform the drivers when and where vehicles are when this happens, but for some reason F1 just doesn’t do this? Blame Gasly all you like, but he was running to the delta he’s told to, that’s not a Gasly problem, that’s a rule problem. The safety car train also drove past the tractor, at the front of the pack, no real i ..read more

The Statman’s Track Guides – Camping
The F1 Stat Blog

Camping at a racetrack is not for everyone, but it is generally the fastest way to get into the track each day, so at big events with lots of traffic over multiple days, I would absolutely recommend it. With all the right gear and knowledge camping can be great fun and perfectly comfortable. So as with the general track guide, here are some tips, this time for camping. Make a checklist of everything you need before leaving, check everything off as it is packed, and double check everything, you want to make sure you have absolutely everything. If you have a choice of where you pitch your tent ..read more

The Statman’s Track Guides – Donington Park
The F1 Stat Blog

I have only been to Donington Park a few times, but it is a great track to visit and has some of the best trackside views in the UK. Donington Park Circuit/MSV Entry/Exit: Donington Park is quite well placed, it’s not particularly near anywhere other than the airport next door, so almost all traffic around is going to the track and there are several routes in, so traffic isn’t a major problem unlike some other tracks. There are several different entrances, but unless told otherwise you should use the Main Entrance off of Melbourne Road. You can pay extra to park at Starkey’s and view the track ..read more

The Statman’s Track Guides – Pandemic Edition

The world continues to be affected by the ongoing global pandemic, but racetracks up and down the UK are opening up their doors to fans with open arms. It is important in these challenging times to support your local circuit, or even to travel further afield and try a new venue out. I have previously written about things to do and bring with you when attending a race, but with the current worldwide situation as it is, there must be a few extra additions to consider. While many things at a racetrack are still the same, there are some additional bits of information that will be important to know ..read more

AWS have released what they call the Fastest Driver in Formula 1, and even after reading their explanations, just, no. And here's the top 1⃣0⃣! ICYMI, more here >> https://t.co/ghznkqrmne#F1 @awscloud pic.twitter.com/zACUClNmTa — Formula 1 (@F1) August 18, 2020 At the start the list doesn’t look too bad, and then you keep going and it just keeps getting more bizarre. When you look at the full top 20 it is simply ridiculous. While you can try and compare drivers over different eras with numbers and algorithms, it just doesn’t work and isn’t possible. While in my early days I did do thi ..read more

Why F1 is right to launch its #WeRaceAsOne initiative
The F1 Stat Blog
by JackStatMan

I made the mistake of reading every single reply to F1’s tweet announcing the #WeRaceAsOne initiative, and I am frankly disgusted by some so-called F1 ‘fans’. It had not even been properly announced over what the initiative involved other than inclusivity and equality and people jumped on claiming “politics doesn’t belong in sport or F1” and I very much hope this is just a vocal minority. Motorsport is one of the richest, white, male-dominated sports around, and not just in terms of drivers. This needed systematic change must be improved from the grassroots level and up. F1 can do more; it see ..read more

Why an Imola return might be great for F1
The F1 Stat Blog
by Craig Woollard

Formula 1’s 2020 calendar was supposed to be its most diverse, its longest and most extensive – travelling to an all-new street circuit at Hanoi, as well as a revamped tight and twisty Zandvoort – a circuit with plenty of F1 heritage. Due to the unforeseen circumstances that have affected the globe, those events are set to not happen in 2020. F1’s calendar this year is not without its uniqueness, though. Doubleheaders at circuits are dotted around the place, making the Red Bull Ring the first venue to host two F1 races in a year since Brands Hatch in 1983. Never, however, has a venue hosted tw ..read more
