Mystery Water Truck Puts Out Live-In Box Truck Fire
Unofficial Networks

A live-in box truck went up in flames in San Francisco last week, and as the fire department arrived to put it out, a random white truck rolls up and douses the burning vehicle with a boatload of water. The question is, who’s truck is it? FormerlyFlightsuit, who posted the video to YouTube, proposes that it could have been a San Francisco Police Department vehicle, or even just a random good citizen. I’m betting that it’s just an unmarked fire department vehicle for when access to the hydrant is blocked. It kind of seems like the box truck is parked too close to the white fire hydrant, which ..read more

Paraglider’s Winch Line Nearly Struck By Plane While 350 Meters Above The Ground
Unofficial Networks

This paraglider‘s heart rate must have gone through the roof during this incident. This guy was paragliding with the help of a winch in Härkeberga, Sweden, back in 2013 when, as he was 350 meters above the ground, a SAAB MFI 15 narrowly missed the winch line. According to the video’s description, the plane passed just 50 feet below the paraglider and within 1-3 meters of the line. The aircraft pilot apparently never even realized what happened, and the pilot’s map information had no indication of the paraglider’s location. When you watch the clip without understanding that the winch line is t ..read more

The Infamous British Ski Slope That Was Condemned Before It Ever Opened

“It’s never been skied on and it never will be. The people of Kirkby really have been lumbered with a heap of old rubbish.” Interesting look back from the BBC archives of the Kirby Ski Slope near Liverpool that was condemned before it ever opened to the public. Built out of garbage, without planning permission, over a water main and on land not belonging to the council it was doomed from the get go. The 150ft artificial ski slope was built back in 1973 and at a cost of £140,000 but was demolished before anyone got to enjoy it. They were many issues with the Kirby Ski Slope, not least of ..read more

Nevada’s Lee Canyon Is On The Rise

Clark County, Nevada- Most people in the country don’t think of Las Vegas as a place for skiers and outdoorsy people, and that’s for many good reasons. Sin City is known for many things: its casinos, strip clubs, restaurants, and shows. Being in the brutal heat that can give you hyperthermia makes you want to sprint into an air-conditioned casino, not do outdoor activities. However, only a one-hour drive outside Las Vegas, Lee Canyon feels like you’re on another planet. For decades, it has become a place for Vegas locals to chill out and escape the heat. Its high base elevation, 8510 feet ..read more

Zoo Bear Enjoys Duck Flavored Snack In Front Of Horrified Children

No better way to teach kids about the circle of life than having them watch a bear eat a bunch of ducks right in front of them, right? This video, shared to TikTok by hppytrees, comes from the Woodland Park Zoo. Somehow a family of ducks managed to get inside a bear enclosure, and the animal reacted exactly as you would probably expect it to react. The brown bear, who’s apparently named Juniper, hunts, kills, and eats several of the ducks. Part of me would like to think that I’d be a responsible parent and hide my hypothetical children from this sort of trauma. The other part of me knows that ..read more

“Knowing the distance your bear spray goes is important. How you deploy it is determined by the bear’s agitation level and how far away it is.”  Really useful guide from the Be Bear Aware Campaign  on proper use of bear spray. If you’re planning a trip into bear country this summer, I highly recommend watching this all the way through to make sure you not only buy (OR RENT) the right kind of bear spray but also know when and how to use it. WATCH: Out-Of-Control Snowboarder SLAMS Into Innocent Skier
Unofficial Networks

Here’s a great demonstration of what being an idiot on the mountain looks like. This skier is coming down the hill, making pretty normal, predictable turns, and a snowboarder slams into him at full speed. Both are knocked to the ground hard. The skier clearly had the wind knocked out of him, and the snowboarder is clearly pretty badly injured. Fortunately you can see both people are moving after this crash, but, man, it does not look good. So let’s be very clear here. The skier is in no way at fault in this situation. The snowboarder does try to avoid hitting the skier, but they should have s ..read more
