A county school board in Virginia decided this week to restore the original Confederate names of two schools previously deemed offensive. Following the death of George Floyd in 2020, the Shenandoah County School Board voted to change the names of two schools in their jurisdiction named after Confederate generals.  Stonewall Jackson High School, named after Gen. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued an injured man whose sailboat ran aground off the coast of Georgia this week. A barge struck the Fort Madison Bridge in Iowa on Thursday and later sank in the Mississippi River.  The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m., prompting the closure of the near 100-year-old swing gate bridge, but it was reopened around 4:15 p.m., officials said. Search crews on Friday uncovered the bodies of two backcountry skiers who were swept away and buried by an avalanche in the mountains outside Salt Lake City a day earlier and were preparing to bring them off the mountain via helicopter, Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera said. The men, ages 23 and 32, were killed in the snowslide Thursday morning in the area of Lone Peak in the Wasatch Range southeast of the city, officials. Police responding to a domestic disturbance early Friday in Memphis fatally shot an armed suspect and an injured man at the scene was hospitalized, authorities said. Officers heard an active disturbance when they arrived around 3 a.m. and found the wounded man, Memphis Police said in a statement on social media.  An armed suspect charged at police and one officer fired, the statement said. The suspect was brought to the hospital in critical condition and later died, police said. It was not clear what kind of weapon the suspect had. A tractor-trailer hauling about 15 million honey bees to be used to pollinate blueberry fields crashed and overturned on Interstate 95 in Maine, officials said. The driver was taken to the hospital Thursday night while first responders worked to ensure the safety of the bees that were in hives strapped on the trailer.  The trailer which landed on its side alongside the highway, officials said. Police in Florida have released bodycam footage showing the moment a deputy fatally shot an Air Force airman as he answered the door to his apartment last week. Roger Fortson, 23, a Black senior airman, is seen in the video answering the door while holding a handgun by his side before -- the deputy opened fire multiple times at close range.
