A county school board in Virginia decided this week to restore the original Confederate names of two schools previously deemed offensive. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued an injured man whose sailboat ran aground off the coast of Georgia this week. A barge struck the Fort Madison Bridge in Iowa on Thursday and later sank in the Mississippi River.  The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m., prompting the closure of the near 100-year-old swing gate bridge, but it was reopened around 4:15 p.m., officials said. Search crews on Friday uncovered the bodies of two backcountry skiers who were swept away and buried by an avalanche in the mountains outside Salt Lake City a day earlier and were preparing to bring them off the mountain via helicopter, Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera said. Police responding to a domestic disturbance early Friday in Memphis fatally shot an armed suspect and an injured man at the scene was hospitalized, authorities said. Officers heard an active disturbance when they arrived around 3 a.m. and found the wounded man, Memphis Police said in a statement on social media.  An armed suspect charged at police and one officer fired, the statement said. A tractor-trailer hauling about 15 million honey bees to be used to pollinate blueberry fields crashed and overturned on Interstate 95 in Maine, officials said.
