I found a bunch of these 2021 carded Imaginext DC Super Friends figures at 1/2 price at Walmart, and though I've tripled(?) the number of Imaginext Batmen in my collection in the span of a couple weeks, I found another I needed. Like my Scarecrow 2-pk  Batman and my Bat Signal Multi-Pack Batman, this blue Batman has a translucent chest that can be lit from behind, This Imaginext Batman is special because he looks like my Imaginext XL Defender Blue Batman: This Mr. Freeze looks a little different that the others I've seen recently-  he reminds me a lot of the 6" Power Attack ..read more

Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 (2024) & More!

As soon as BubbaShelby posted shots of these Imaginext Super Friends on Instagram, I had to at least snag that Martian Manhunter! And though I had sold off my collection, I compulsively scooped up what amounted to nearly the entire wave. And then I bought some other DC Imaginext... As a Mego kid from the '70s, this color combo of Batman in his blue & gray with his chest insignia over a yellow oval with black trunks is my jam. Only the "bullet capsule" belt and blacked-out face cowl could have made it better, but he's certainly reminiscent of Bronze-Age Batman. I found a si ..read more

NECA D&D Ultimate Warduke

I can't remember if I had Warduke as a kid in the '80s, or my best friend had him, but I did have a few of the LJN figures and that fantastic Fortress of Fangs playset! Regardless, I was a little late to the game with these NECA Dungeons & Dragons figures, scoring this one from an online seller recently (Toyshnip.com). This is a beautiful action figure with a ton of accessories- be careful with it though, I knocked one of the earpieces out of its port on the helmet almost immediately. I was able to repair this with some superglue easily enough, but they are pretty rigid. The joints a ..read more

Dungeon Diorama

It had been a while since making a diorama for my action figure photography, and I'd been wanting a new background for the MOTU Masterverse figures I've been collecting. This is the simplest diostructure I've made, I just wanted a sizeable, but simple "fantasy" background. Like the others I've produced, this setup is collapsable, held together with magnets imbedded at the base.   This began with two 24 x 24" pink foam insulation squares, carved with a couple bamboo picks I made back in college sculpture class. The magnets at the base were inserted after priming, then the pieces were pa ..read more

MOTU Masterverse New Eternia Man-At-Arms & Trap Jaw

These Masterverse figures arrived from Amazon last December as part of the most recent New Eternia Wave. I had preordered them almost immediately upon solicitation, their classic representations of each character a big draw for me- a kid who witnessed the 1982 debut of Mattel's Masters of the Universe line. With two separate head sculpts and two unique helmets, this New Eternia Man-At-Arms feels like a deluxe figure- if that's not enough, the extra fists and ball and chain accessory surely put it closer to that classification. Like Ram Man, we got a weapon clip on the figure's armor to sto ..read more

MOTU Masterverse New Eternia Deluxe Ram Man

I picked up this Deluxe New Eternia Ram Man at a discounted price on the secondary market recently, quite late to the game- a tremendous oversight as this is one of the best Masterverse figures produced, with a fantastic sculpt/deco, loaded with accessories. When the Masterverse line first dropped in 2021, it wasn't clear if we would be getting traditional representations of all the Masters of the Universe characters, or if the line would only follow the Netflix Revelations series. We did begin seeing classic representations though, accelerating with the New Eternia launch. We get a c ..read more

MOTU Masterverse New Eternia Webstor, Faker, & Jitsu

Webstor, Faker, and Jitsu were all Masterverse figures I collected on the secondary market last year, coming into the game late after three years of telling myself that Mattel's MOTU Origins line was all I was interested in. But over time I was swayed by this fantastic 7" line of Masters of the Universe figures- the more recent New Eternia figures most especially. Webstor: The only figure of these three I didn't have from the original MOTU line in the '80s, this Webstor has fantastic detail in the face, with its translucent red eyes. His grapple gun has retractable claws, the line of ..read more

Figures Toy Co. Mego Batman

I'd been wanting a Mego Batman with this fixed cowl head sculpt for some time now, the one with the vague smile and pupilled stare like the Batman I had in the '70s. Figures Toy Company has been releasing these replica figures for years, along with a universe of other characters Mego never produced in their halcyon days, so I purchased an uncarded, factory bagged sample on their eBay store. I also bought their replica Mego Batmobile in 2022, which I love to death... Below, Figures Toy Co. Batman flanked by my Mego Big Lots Exclusive '66 Batman and Mego World's Greatest Heroes 50th Anniv ..read more

I've had these MOTU Origins Snake Men on ice far too long, my Snake Moutain playset having been in full service now for the last four months! There have been rumors about additional Snake Men figures on the horizon for this line, but if it doesn't happen, I feel these round out my collection well enough. Deluxe Snake Face I kept reading rave reviews about this figure enough that I came to appreciate him as a good candidate for my Snake Men lineup over time. I didn't collect Masters of the Universe past '83 or so, so I missed the 1987 release of the original Snake Face. This figure doesn't po ..read more

Super Powers Batman & Nightwing

I've so far avoided buying every one of these McFarlane Toys Super Powers figures, but had to pick up the all-black Batman and Nightwing figures back in December. They don't have the action features the Kenner figures had back in the '80s, but I love their retro styling. Below, Super Powers Batman with my 1990 Kenner Shadow Wing Batman, which has a great action feature and a better sculpt than the McFarlane Batman, modeled after actor Michael Keaton's cinematic Batman... I was particularly won over by this Nightwing in one of his earlier "Knightfall" outfit... There aren't a lot of posi ..read more
