Seinfeld: “The Movie Business Is Over”
Dark Horizons
by Garth Franklin

Jerry Seinfeld seems to be enjoying the irony of finally becoming a movie director just as the film industry itself seems to be on the wane – at least, as he says, from a cultural importance perspective. The former sitcom star’s feature film directorial debut is a Netflix comedy that serves as a fictional account of the creation of Pop-Tarts toaster pastries. Speaking with GQ Magazine ahead of the film’s release, he spoke about how “dead serious” and hard working people in the film industry are and joked “they don’t have any idea that the movie business is over”. Asked to elaborate on that poi ..read more

Marvel Studios has premiered the highly anticipated second trailer for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” a preview that finally shows Hugh Jackman back in action as Wolverine. Here they pull Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) from his quiet life and set him on a mission with Wolverine that will change the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ..read more

David Fincher recently restored his iconic 1995 neo-noir thriller “Se7en” to full 8K resolution ahead of the 4K premiere on IMAX at the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles this part Friday and a 4K UHD disc release on May 3rd. To make the restoration possible, he and his frequent post-production collaborator Peter Mavromates reunited to scan the original camera negative in 8K and then remastered it at that level. Color corrections, retouches, and VFX were also rendered in 8K, but then were downsampled to 4K because there is currently no distribution chain for 8K. Speaking with Indiewire, about the ..read more

This week sees the release of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” spin-off TV series “Knuckles,” a six-episode series that serves as a side-quel to the two live-action/CG-hybrid films based on the property. Should it prove successful, and judging from the numbers for the trailers it likely will be, it’s expected to lead to more from the franchise beyond the main movies. Filmmaker Jeff Fowler, who directed “Knuckles” and the “Sonic” films, told Discussing Film at the show’s premiere that the “sky’s the limit” on more potential spin-offs like “Knuckles”. He adds: “It’s a wonderful question to ask, ‘who els ..read more

Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s long-gestating “Frankenstein” film adaptation is currently in the midst of production. This weekend he has shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the movie via his official X account, the shot sees him alongside cinematographer Dan Laustsen and a fellow actor on the set of the movie. Dark Horizons
by Garth Franklin

Three years ago came word that “Godzilla vs. Kong” director Adam Wingard and his longtime writing partner Simon Barrett were working on a sequel to 1997’s John Woo-directed action feature “Face/Off”. Then last year, Wingard indicated he would only make the film if the original cast returned – namely actors John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. He also said the plan is to do a “real follow-up, not just like some fan service movie”. Well, scooper Daniel Richtman is now reporting that both stars will be back to reprise their roles of Sean Archer (Travolta) and Castor Troy (Cage) respectively. No furthe ..read more
