To our readers: This morning I learned that Jack Hammer, whose work as a freelance blogger covering the San Francisco ‘49ers has appeared in The Press Democrat since July 2021, had pleaded no contest to a felony child-sex charge 18 years ago and was sentenced to 60 days of work release. We have terminated his services effective immediately. The incident, which involved a 17-year-old girl, occurred when Hammer, whose real name is Jeff Patterson, was a high school football coach and math teacher in Morgan Hill in the South Bay. In addition to his work-release sentence, he served five years of pr ..read more

This is the longest such streak in the NFL since the Denver Broncos won 11 straight from week 15 of 2012 to week 8 of 2013. San Francisco’s record setting run could be in danger of coming to an end against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Cleveland defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has owned 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. The two have faced off nine times since 2008, eight as head coaches or coordinators. Schwartz has won 8 of those matchups, including the last seven while holding Shanahan’s ..read more

Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky is the latest pundit to take a shot at 40ers quarterback Brock Purdy. During a segment Monday morning on “Get Up” Orlovsky told the panel, “If Jones was in San Francisco, he would be playing like Brock Purdy.” San Francisco tight end George Kittle was asked about the comments during an interview with KNBR’s “Murph and Mac” Show on Tuesday morning. “I saw that this morning. That’s disrespectful to Brock Purdy,” said Kittle. “I think Mac Jones is a fine quarterback. Currently what Brock’s doing, you look at his stats, just watch the tape. Just watch him move ..read more

Deebo Samuel to Micah Parsons, “It was already personal”
Inside the 49ers

“Laugh now. Cry Later” That was the message Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons had for 49ers tight end George Kittle. Parsons comments came as he voiced his displeasure with Kittle on his podcast, The Edge with Michah Parsons, following the 49ers 42-10 thrashing of the Cowboys on Sunday night. What Parson’s had an issue with wasn’t that he had been shut down to the point it appeared he had forgotten to board the Cowboys flight to Santa Clara for the game. Instead, it was that Kittle had chosen to wear a shirt under his uniform with “F— Dallas” across the front similar to the one worn by ..read more

Welcome to Brocktober. This is a month fans of Iowa State Cyclones became familiar with during Brock Purdy’s time in Ames, Iowa. For whatever reason, Purdy showed an ability to elevate his game in the month of October. The phenomenon began with Purdy’s first start against Oklahoma State. In his first start Purdy led a 1-3 Cyclone team to a 48-42 upset win on the road. The following week he led them to a 30-14 win over sixth ranked West Virginia. From that point forward a tradition took hold. During Purdy’s time at Iowa State he went 12-3 in October. Over the course of his college care ..read more
