Jackson Chourio went 0-2 on Wednesday, punching out in both trips to the plate. Chourio has not been great in his first month in the bigs. He's swinging at everything (34% Chase, 32% Whiff, both 17th Percentile) and pounding the ball into the ground (49%). Luckily, he's being recorded as an elite runner and defender, plus the Brewers handed him guarantee money, so they are likely to see this dry spell through. He's shown progress, but in redraft leagues, the early returns are not great. I'd shop him around or even drop him if your roster is tight. Mitch Garver went 0-4 and is now batting .141 ..read more

April 24, 2024 - Do the Phillies have to bring Taijuan Walker back?

Cristopher Sanchez (SP - PHI) - With Wheeler and Nola doing their usual stuff and Suarez, Turnbull, and Sanchez impressing in various amounts, is Taijuan Walker back to the rotation this weekend really a thing? Sanchez struggled a bit on Tuesday in his bid for 3 straight QS, but it looks a lot worse than it truly was due to 3 Phillie errors. He scuffled a bit with his control (3 BB and 2 WP in 3 IP), but with a 50% zone rate that also wasn't as bad as you might think. The GB rate was at its typically elite level, his velocity was up even more than the 1.8 mph he's already up this season, and i ..read more

April 23, 2024 - Still in on Garcia

Maikel Garcia (3B - KC) - Garcia hit his 4th HR of the year on Monday against Yusei Kikuchi and the Jays in a 5-3 defeat. He does have 4 SB to go along with the 4 HR.....and a 178/224/367 slash line. I will say this: if you liked Garcia a month ago, you should very much still like him. The chase and contact rates are both still well above average, the EV remains above average, and despite all of the poor outcomes (.188 BABIP?!?), he's still on pace for close to a 30/30 season. I am still very positive here, and I would happily take anyone's shares of Garcia that is frustrated. The Statcast xAV ..read more

Alex Bregman- 3B- HOU- Cold- Bregman went 0-for-4 yesterday, dropping his slash line 20 .213/.302/ 280. He has only 5 extra base hits (all doubles) in 86 PAs. Bregman is still walking at a solid clip of 11.6% and his K% is the same number. His EV of 88.9 is slightly above his 88.6 from 2023 and his HardHIt% of 37.1% is close to his 38.2% of last year. Bregman's Pull% of 27.4% is well below his career mark of 45.5%. He has a higher FB% (53.2%) than his career norm (44.2%) and his LA of 26.0 is well above his career average of 17.9. It appears that Bregman's poor results are an artifact of small ..read more

In The Field OF Tyler O'Neill (concussion) has been placed on the concussion IL. He hopes to be activated on Tuesday when first eligible to return. O'Neill has started off strong (.313 AVG with 7 HR, 14 R, 8 RBI, and 1 SB). He has shown good plate skills (18% BB, 21% K) while crushing the ball (23% Barrels). 3B Rafael Devers is now dealing with a knee injury in addition to the shoulder injury that he has been dealing with since the start of the season. He has not hit the IL yet but he has clearly been playing injured and it shows (.188 AVG with 2 HR, 5 R, 5 RBI, and 0 SB). He was not in the li ..read more

A.J. Puk, SP, Marlins A.J. Puk was hit hard again on Friday, allowing seven runs on seven hits and three walks in three innings. This start raised his ERA to 9.22 and brought his K:BB to 12:17 on the season. He has shown very little promise as a starter thus far, failing to pitch 5 innings in all four of his starts. He is unable to throw strikes consistently, with his 24.1% BB% ranking in the 1st percentile on the season, and when he does throw strikes, hitters have an average exit velocity of 85.2 mph and a ground ball rate of only 30.6. The Marlins shocked everyone earlier in the week by dem ..read more

Ahmed Rosario, SS/2B/OF, TB Rosario extended his hitting streak to ten games on Thursday afternoon. He went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI. The 28-year-old also has five multi-hit games over the past six contests and is now hitting a robust .339 for the season. Rosario has always been a decent contact hitter but has taken it to another level so far in 2024. He has been seeing the ball extremely well as he is attacking the ball in the strike zone like never before. Rosario's career Z-Swing% is 68.9% but it's at 83.2% so far this season, which ranks third in the majors. He isn't just swinging ..read more

Interesting Prospect Call-Ups - April 17, 2024

Andy Pages The Dodgers promoted their number three prospect on Tuesday. Pages has a very strong offensive resume. The 23 year old is slashing .371/.452/.694 in 15 AAA games, and while the ballpark environment he was playing in is super hitter friendly, it's an impressive statline nonetheless. His 18/11 K/BB% is really solid, but we obviously expect those numbers to take hits on both sides of the ratio, but the 18% K rate is his best figure since 2018. However, I think there's a sneaky good chance he is able to carve out a consistent role. The Dodgers are in need of an outfielder, desperately ..read more

Edward Cabrera (SP - MIA) - Well, the Marlins threw everybody for a loop on Monday. AJ Puk reportedly came down with an illness, so Miami decided to demote Max Meyer, fresh off an excellent outing against the Braves, and bring up Edward Cabrera to make his season debut even though he was slated for one more rehab start on Wednesday. Meyer is apparently going to stay in the minors and pitch 3 innings once a week [eye roll emoji], while Cabrera looked like the best version of himself during a 6 IP, 1 ER, 1 BB, 10 K outing against the Giants. Pretty much anytime Cabrera only walks 1 guy it's a su ..read more

Luis Castillo-Mariners-SP Luis Castillo went 6 IP and gave up 2 ER on 7 H, 0 BB, and 9 K's against the Cubs. Castillo has a 5.82 ERA and 1.66 WHIP through four starts. His surface stats paint an ugly picture for someone supposed to be one of the game's best pitchers. However, his underlying skills look fine. He is missing bats (24% K) and showing good control (5% BB). His 3.53 SIERA is right in line with what he has done throughout his career. Castillo has been burnt by bad luck (.446 BABIP) in his short sample. He is also a notoriously slow starter so there isn't much to be worried about desp ..read more
