Week 14 was not a good week for the Washington Capitals.  Their return to contests against Metropolitan Division teams – Columbus and Philadelphia, both below them in standings – was an opportunity to keep their recent momentum, advance in the standings, and put some more distance between themselves and teams below them in the division.  It did not turn out entirely as Caps fans would have liked. The margin between a really good week and a mediocre one in eh NHL can be measured in a few minutes.  It was true for the Washington Capitals in Week 13. They allowed a game-tying goal in the second half of the third period of one game before losing in overtime, and they were less than five minutes from forcing overtime when they surrendered the game-winning goal in another context to leave them with a 1-1-1 record that could have ended much better with better late-game management.
