Something on your mind? Chat about it here. I’ve always been a fan of large, dangly white earrings because I’ve (almost) always had long, dark hair. (Also, although I rarely wear white, it does bring a bit of brightness to my face.) These earrings from Kendra Scott look lovely — and I am sorely tempted by the three other color variations: mint green, light blue, and a pretty pink. They all look like great ways to bring fresh pastels to brighten your outfits for spring! The earrings are $75 at Nordstrom; they also have a matching necklace and come as studs. Frugal Friday’s Workwear Report: Open-Front Cardigan

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. I’m always stopping in the clothing section at Target to check out the latest and greatest, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sweaters I’ve seen there. This chunky, open-front cardigan is 100% cotton and looks so, so cozy. I would pair it with black ponte pants and my favorite work-appropriate T-shirt for a comfy Friday in the office. The sweater is $30 and comes in sizes XS–4X. It’s also available in seven other colors. Workwear sales of note for 2.29.24 Our favorites are in ..read more

This large leather tote bag from Black-owned brand Liselle Kiss looks great. At 18″ W x 5.5″ D x 12″ H, it’s a great size for laptops, shoes, work papers, and more. Do note that it has an open top, which can be a deal breaker for many. The bag is $425 at Bloomingdale’s, available in black and a gunmetal silver. Is Your LinkedIn Headshot Holding You Back?

The WSJ had an article recently entitled, “Is Your LinkedIn Headshot Holding You Back? How to Master a Stylish Professional Portrait,” (gift link) and I thought it might make an interesting discussion here. We’ve talked about headshots before, of course, but we haven’t directly talked about this. (More specifically: we’ve talked about general best practices for headshots, what to wear for headshots, when to update your headshot, how to work with a corporate photographer’s hair and makeup team, and how to get a great corporate headshot in glasses.) Here’s the problem, as the article sets it u ..read more

Suit of the Week: Boden

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional. Also: we just updated our big roundup for the best women’s suits of 2024! Boden has some really fun prints right now, including in suits. As Tim Gunn would say, it’s a Lot of Look for some of the prints (like, er, this or this) — but this brown suit with a pink check pattern is unusual and inter ..read more

Sure, we all know what wardrobe essentials for work professional women are supposed to have in their closets, but if you’re buying one for the first time or replacing one you’ve worn into the ground, it can be a pain to find exactly the right incarnation in stores. In “The Hunt,” we search the stores for a basic item that every woman should have. Here’s a question we haven’t talked about in far too long: what do you think are the best pants for work? Which ones are your favorites for comfort — for fit — for travel? There are actually a ton of great options right now — almost all of ..read more

Wednesday’s Workwear Report: Proctor Top

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. Ever since I read the New York Times article about the “unexpected red” design trend (gift link), I feel like red things are popping out at me everywhere I look. This top from Of Mercer isn’t exactly “unexpected” in color, but the pintucks at the waist aren’t something you see every day! I would wear this with trousers and a sweater blazer for a pulled-together business casual look. The top is $118 at Of Mercer and comes in sizes XS–XL. Coffee Break: Wide-Stitched Belt

M.M.LaFleur has had a number of interesting belts over the years — and I really like this wide-stitched belt. It comes in sizes XS-XXL. I’d wear it with dresses or jumpsuits, and I might even try it to cinch a blazer or cardigan. It’s $125 at M.M.LaFleur. As of 2024, some of our favorite brands to check for work belts include Brooks Brothers, M.M.LaFleur, and Tory Burch; also keep an eye on The Outnet and Nordstrom Rack for sales. For inexpensive belts, readers love J.Crew Factory, Banana Republic Factory, and Ann Taylor. Isabel MarantTory Burch (reversible!)GucciM.M.LaFleur Workwear sales ..read more
