July 17, 2022: One day strike at the Seattle Roastery.

Today, July 17, 2022, some of the Starbucks partners at the Seattle Reserve Roastery participated in a one-day strike. Starbucks calls its employees “partners” because of the benefits they receive, including a grant of Starbucks stock after some restrictions and a vesting period. Starbucks also offers part-time employees health care benefits. Do I think that these unique benefits (healthcare for part-time employees and a stock benefit program) diminish the claim of those striking for unionization and a first union contract? Not at all. Not one iota. I guess the way I think, all Fortune 500 co ..read more

Summer at the Seattle Roastery: Great coffee, a puzzle, and lots more merchandise

June 26, 2022 I dropped by the Seattle Roastery today. It is a perfect summer day with blue skies and warm temps, and the place was packed. There were gems that called out my name! I still enjoy visiting this slice of coffee heaven, despite that I visit less often now that I moved out of Seattle. One of the very latest coffees is a Sun Dried Colombian. I am a little surprised that it is not listed as a Roastery exclusive coffee, and suspect that this is a limited release offering. It launched at the Seattle Roastery this past Tuesday, June 21, 2022. I’m looking forward to trying it. I’ve hear ..read more

November 24, 2021 The Seattle Reserve Roastery launched some new merchandise earlier this month, and one item that jumped out at me, and resonated with me is this super cute Starbucks truck. It’s a toy truck made by Candylab Toys, a company which makes toys out of wood and die-cast aluminum. There are 3 die cast toys made by Candylab available at the Roastery: (1) A Princi truck (Princi is an Italian food business operated by Starbucks, with locations insides the Roasteries, as well as other locations.)  (2) A whiskey barrel truck and (3) this classic Starbucks truck. The whiskey barrel ..read more

Years ago, I started a website that I called “Pets of Starbucks”. And then later I renamed it, Coffee House Paws thinking that it could include any coffee house cute pet photos. That, and Starbucks Moments (which is a bit duplicative of Pets of Starbucks, but broader in the kinds of photos) are my two quietest sites. Despite this, about once to twice per month, I get a new upload of someone showing off their very cute Starbucks pet picture! It’s been a while since I’ve featured them on this site, so here you have a collection of lots of awesome pet pictures. And, piglets like Starbucks too! H ..read more

The original Starbucks: 1912 Pike Place in the year 2020.

On October 10, 2020, I dropped by the first Starbucks at 1912 Pike Place. It had been quite a while since I visited and completely forgot how long you might wait in line to get in. It is still best to arrive very early in the morning, or perhaps later in the day. I got to the market about 11:30 AM on a Saturday and got into the store roughly a half hour later. As a reminder, this store does not offer mobile order and pay. And there is no food at this store. Also, the maximum store capacity at this time is just 8 persons, so this too might contribute you to waiting in a line to get inside! Lik ..read more

Starbucks is testing a new way to reduce your paper cup consumption. The Starbucks in University Village in Seattle has a special cup machine that allows a customer to return their $1 reusable cup and retrieve their $1 cost back. Let me explain how it works: Step 1: Order your drinking, paying for a one dollar reusable cup. This program is only available for limited sizes: The grande and venti sized cold beverages, and tall, grande, venti sizes for hot beverages. Use your Starbucks card to pay for your drink. Step 2: Enjoy your beverage. Step 3: When you have finished your beverage, return t ..read more

Carina Padua sent me this great photo. It is from her personal Facebook feed and she writes: “Succulents on Starbucks pudding cups I like them in our bathroom These succulents are from cuttings from my succulents. I don’t want them to grow big.” That photo is just so happy! Also, from my submit a pic link, a reader named Salena sent this cute photo of her pup, Bigfoot: She writes, “Bigfoot trying to get every last lick after his trip to the vet, what a good boy!” Both of these photos came in this month, July 2020. Hopefully the world is slowly returning to normalcy. I don’t know. I wish all ..read more

Seattle Reserve Roastery Reopens to the Public Today!

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, the Seattle Reserve Roastery closed to the public on March 17, 2020. Today, May 18, 2020, is the first day it is open again. All the partners are wearing masks, and there is a grab-n-go format. There are clear paths that you walk, and there is no way to linger in the store. Both the Roastery portion of the store, as well as the Princi food bakery inside the store, are now open. The latest coffee appears to be Colombia Cerra Azul. Gravitas Coffee Vintage 2020 is still available as a Roastery exclusive blend. Outside of the store, there is a very tall bever ..read more

Anniversary Blend returns for the 24th year – You can still buy whole bean coffee at Starbucks.

During this pandemic, you cannot go inside a Starbucks, but you can still use the drive-thru and you can still buy whole bean coffee. I discovered that Anniversary Blend returned to Starbucks last month, and found it available at a grocery store Starbucks. (This photo is from the Mercer Island QFC Starbucks). Anniversary Blend has been around since 1996, and includes Aged Sumatra coffee beans, giving it a unique rich flavor. The packaging always tells a bit of the coffee story. West Java is also available and new, and I can assure you it is delicious – it’s not as dark as Anniversary Blend. Y ..read more

This Starbucks is canning its own cold brew.

The First and Pike Starbucks in downtown Seattle is now offering its own unique canned cold brew coffee. That store offers Pike Place Special Reserve coffee, which is not the same thing as Pike Place Roast. Pike Place Special Reserve is a darker roast profile than Pike Place Roast, and it is a different blend of Latin American coffees. You can find Pike Place Special Reserve at two locations: The first store at 1912 Pike Place, and this Starbucks, just outside the entrance of the Market, located at 102 Pike Street. The First and Pike Starbucks opened new on Friday, March 13, 2009. About three ..read more
