It’s been a fun month for the Dekkers — skating parties, basketball tournaments in the driveway, football games in our front yard, volleyball games, winter break, church activities, piano lessons, and lots of fun with cousins and neighbors. We celebrated Simon’s 10th birthday (can you believe it!) and the kids are looking forward to celebrating Buster’s 1st birthday next week! Aren’t they a cute pair FAVORITE MOMENT = Our New Photo Book Our new family photo book arrived last month, and I just love how excited the kids get about looking through it. We keep our photo books right off the ..read more

How to Eliminate Weeds in 2 Steps
Andrea Dekker

Create the landscape of your dreams without spending tons of time pulling weeds. Get rid of weeds for good with a simple 2-step process. Our 1890s farmhouse is nestled back off the road on a one-acre lot, right in the middle of a newer neighborhood. Our yard butts up to 8 different neighbor’s yards, so landscaping has been a bit of a challenge (especially when neighboring weeds continued to invade our yard). Years ago, we installed a wooden privacy fence (with several gates) to give our yard a bit more structure, to offer a nice backdrop to our flowers and shrubs, to make it easier to cont ..read more

Easy Crispy Cheddar Chicken Bake
Andrea Dekker

We love this crispy cheddar chicken and you will too! I wouldn’t describe our children as “picky eaters” but there are definitely meals they like more than others — and this chicken is one of everyones’ favorites (we’re a big meat and potatoes family!) I always get 2 thumbs up (and requests for seconds) when I mix chicken, cheese, and butter — and it’s an added bonus that it only takes 15 minutes to get it in the oven. I’ve never tried freezing this recipe (because it’s just so quick and easy) but I can attest to the fact that the leftovers are fantastic! If you’re looking for a new baked ch ..read more

Love It, Use It, or Lose It – Your Simple Decluttering Guide
Andrea Dekker
by Andrea

Decluttering doesn’t have to be overwhelming… just ask yourself if you love it or use it. If not, it’s probably time to lose it! I’m a big fan of decluttering (not just organizing). In fact, even if I have the space to store something, I probably won’t keep it unless we regularly use it or we just love it. I’ve been a “declutterer” for as long as I can remember, and in over 30 years of life, I’d need to really think hard to come up with something I regret decluttering (pretty good odds if you ask me!) Of course, if we have a use for an item or if it’s just something we love, I’ll ma ..read more

A Few of My Favorite Things (February 2024)

My handmade “late winter / early spring” wreath. Recently, I’ve been thinking about when we purchased our farmhouse (13 years ago last month!) At the time, I really wanted a farmhouse “out in the country” but Dave insisted on finding a farmhouse IN A NEIGHBORHOOD (and Dave doesn’t “insist” on a whole lot). He wanted to be close to things — people, school, church, activities, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Of course, we found the perfect house (it literally met every one of our ridiculously long list of requirements) and now I’m SO glad Dave was smart enough to insist on being in a neighbor ..read more

Simple Space-Saving Freezer Cooking Tips
Andrea Dekker
by Andrea
2M ago
Freezer cooking allows me to save money by stocking up when ingredients are on sale, save time by making double and triple batches of our favorite recipes, and save energy on busy days when I don’t have time to prepare a full meal (I can just grab something from the freezer!) However, freezer cooking can take up a lot of space and it can require a whole bunch of extra baking pans… which can get pricy (and cluttery). If lack of space or extra pans has made you hesitant to try freezer cooking, I’ve got 3 simple, frugal, space-saving freezer cooking solutions that you can likely implement immed ..read more

How to Jumpstart Productive Days with Intentional Evening Routines
Andrea Dekker

Do your mornings feel rushed and chaotic? Do your days feel like they fly away with little to nothing to show for them? Do you constantly feel like you’re running behind or playing “catch-up”? Do you flop into bed long after you hoped to be sleeping? If so, your best bet might be to focus on your evening routine, because… Organized and productive days almost always start with intentional evening routines. Think about it for a minute… if you have a rough night and stay out way too late, there’s very little chance you’ll be ready and rearing to go at a reasonable hour the next morning. And if y ..read more

A Few of My Favorite Things (December 2023)

Our children’s school offers an Outdoor Ed. class once a week for students in Kindergarten – 3rd grade, and I volunteer as a helper for both James’ and Clara’s classes. This year, one of the teachers made an amazing “nature-inspired” Advent Wreath for the outdoor ed space. Isn’t it fantastic!? There’s a common misconception that Christian schools are the same as public schools — just with a Bible class tacked on at some point during the day — but that really couldn’t be further from the truth. Every subject, every extracurricular activity, and every learning opportunity throughout the day is ..read more

We had “family Halloween costumes” for the first time ever — sports themed — for our Church’s Fall Fest over the weekend. Easy, frugal, and fun costumes with lots of candy, cider, and donuts at the event. Plus pretty good weather for late October — it was a “win” all around! Keep reading for several of my current favorite things! Favorite Moment = Sick Buddies We’ve had a bit of sickness floating through our home these last couple of weeks… and no, I’m not glad my children were sick! The reason their sickness prompted a favorite moment was that Buster made sure he stayed right by the sick ..read more

It’s been a “full” and somewhat busy start to the school year for our family — but that initial rush is winding down and we’re adapting to the new normal of school and work and church and a few extra-curriculars. Nora started Robotics, Simon (and Dave) are almost finished with Football, James joined Simon in Cadets, and Clara started piano lessons. They all have something special and we still eat dinner together every night — win, win! Recipes: Chili – Cornbread – Layered Salad Fall weather, fall colors, and fall foods are a few of my favorite things… I’m sharing more below! FAVORITE MOME ..read more
