Movana Chen is a Hong Kong-based artist whose life and career has taken her everywhere- and she has the artworks to prove it. Her life peppered with different work experiences, interests, and travel, eventually allowed Chen to fuse all of these stories together as a life’s work in a knitted paper medium she defines as “KNITerature”. Most recently, a solo show we’ve visited in Hong Kong’s Flowers Gallery the KNITerature series of knitted works with pieces stretching back to 2009 with the latest pieces, her first large scale paintings ever, completed only this year in the shadow of a worldwide p ..read more

Copenhagen based design studio Atelier Cph has been around for six-years, and their work, while recognised in Europe, is finally gaining global traction with the help of international partners like Hong Kong-based Leslie Tsang, founder of One On One Creative- and brand representative for the region. Those who know Leslie, like I do, know her work with her own line of luxury everyday wear-Movers & Cashmere, and know she loves Scandinavian design and aesthetics. Atelier Cph founders, Sara Ingemann and Mandy Rep, met Leslie through Norm Architects, who staged Leslie’s photo-shoot for look boo ..read more

When in Milan, make a stop at Post Design Gallery, the official home of the iconically 80s Memphis-Melano collection of furnitures and objects. Today one can visit Post Design, a nice ground floor space partially hidden within an interior courtyard of an old building complex in Milan’s Brera District. Brera is Milan’s de facto design district, home to furniture studios and showrooms. Post Design’s main initiative is to be the global destination of Memphis style furniture and objects, both vintage and reproduced. Officially launched in 1981, the “Memphis” movement began when a group of young em ..read more

My friend, Michell Lie, is an artist and overall just wonderful human being. Specifically, she’s a contemporary Ink Artist and Candlemaker who donates a sizeable chunk of sales to various NGO’s in Hong Kong devoted to the improvement of lives of the elderly and those who are hungry. People always dream about helping the less fortunate or always try to find a way to give to the community- but Michell really works at creating not only this kind of purposeful life, but makes sure that this life manifested is supported with passion; passion in her art, in her craft, and the people with whom she wo ..read more

The W+ Architecture: Villa Savoye / Poissy

For an end of the week inspiration, I wanted to share personal photos of the iconic Villa Savoye, a declared French national monument, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and former weekend home for a wealthy couple in Poissy. Designed by the great Swiss Architect, Le Corbusier and his cousin, Pierre Jeanneret, the home was commissioned in 1928 for the affluent and completed construction in 1931. Villa Savoye sits in the centre of an open field that was once a wooden plot of land. The design of the building is an intermediary in nature, navigating the relationship between landscape, sky, and movement ..read more

NOTE: A version of this post was originally published on August 10, 2015 on this Blog. In the Summer of 2015, Cathay Pacific Airlines turned a corner to refocus and reinforce the lifestyle component of its travel brand, via a “wellness” lens. Fortunately for them, the brilliant London-based, Ilse Crawford, founder of Studioilse, had agreed to play a major role in the spatial branding transformation of this airline company, historically unafraid to adapt to an ever-changing global travel market. While a majority of travellers are going budget, an increasing niche market ..read more

Recently, as our studio sourced wall covering options for a 5-Star Hotel property, a friend we collaborate with in FF&E, introduced us to Fromental. With head offices in London and satellite offices in Hong Kong, New York City, Shenzhen, and Melbourne- Fromental has scaled up to become a great option for those looking for hand painted and hand embroidered “Chinoiserie” wall coverings on silk. Similar to Fromental, we have worked with the likes of DeGournay before- which is also a wonderful and classic choice, especially when it comes to “Chinoiserie” prints from an English bespoke perspect ..read more

This fall our design studio went on a visit to Hong Kong’s flagship, Kvadrat Showroom, located in the chic antique’s district of Sheung Wan.
