Walking along Frederick Douglass Boulevard (as usual), I noticed some signage up where the old Harlem Food Bar used to be. The signage read Vegan Hood coming soon. Photo by Harlemgal According to their Instagram page, Vegan Hood is expected to open Spring 2022, serving you know what, and relocating from 135th Street in Harlem or opening a second location. And Vegan Hood appears to be a woman/black-owned business. Cool huh? Vegan Hood will be located at 2100 Frederick Douglass Blvd. Congrats to the owners on bringing a different type of cuisine to Harlem’s restaurant row. And this “vegan at tim ..read more

See Reclining Liberty art installation in Harlem’s Morningside Park

Lady Liberty is hanging, actually reclining, in Harlem these days. In fact, she’s going to be stretching out and making herself comfortable for a few months-until April 2022. Reclining Liberty, the name of the art installation, really gives the appearance of her getting ready to chill…hmm well… sort of maybe take a nap in the park. Can’t blame her. Don’t we all feel like that sometimes. Reclining Liberty is a 25 foot long sculpture by Zaq Landsberg. It’s very impressive to see from afar and up close! I took a ton of pictures of Reclining Liberty because it was truly a joy to see-especially sin ..read more

Harlem’s Cantina Taqueria & Tequila Bar moves over one avenue

From the picture below, looks like one of our reader’s comment on a May 13th blog post is absolutely true that Cantina on Adam Clayton Powell Blvd is moving over one avenue to Frederick Douglass Blvd! Congrats to Cantina Taqueria & Tequila Bar. While I’m sure they are (and were) doing good business on ACP, as well as Lenox Avenue, moving to Harlem’s restaurant row will more than likely take their biz up a notch or two! There’s a lot of foot traffic on FDB. Plus their presence adds to the variety of food choices on this busy avenue. Looking forward to visiting soon and ordering some tacos f ..read more

A Cantina 8th Ave coming to old Bier International space in Harlem?

A new business appears to be moving into the old commercial space where Bier International in Harlem used to be located at 2099 Frederick Douglass Blvd. There are signs posted to the glass window saying…now hiring. And most of the branding for Bier has been removed from the space. Looks like the new business might be called Cantina. Guessing from the email listed! Is the Cantina on Adam Clayton Powell moving over one avenue? Or is this going to be an entirely new place? Hmm. If you know any details, drop us a line in the comments section! 2099 Frederick Douglass Blvd. Photo by HarlemGal2099 Fr ..read more

Photo by Netflix Film Movie night generally starts on the weekend for me and my family. But I made an exception this week! On Monday, my kids and I had the opportunity to watch an advance screening of The Mitchells vs The Machines by Netflix Films. Of course, my kids absolutely loved it and can’t wait to see it again when it officially debuts this Friday, April 30. I thoroughly enjoyed it because the actress who plays Queen Elizabeth in The Crown Season 3-4 plays a really good evil Siri-like character. As in The Crown, Olivia Coleman, is fantastic. If you’re looking for a new flick to watch wi ..read more

Dining pods have arrived to part of the restaurant scene in Harlem. And a giant mural on the northwest corner of Frederick Douglass Blvd and 116th Street is going up to commemorate this form of outdoor dining! If you live in the area, you can’t miss the mural (or the pods). The mural looks awesome! Dining pods are now lining FDB from 116th to 120th Street at the following restaurants: Bixi Harlem, Blvd Bistro, Chocolate, Harlem Burger, Harlem Tavern, Mess Hall/Double Dutch, Silvana and Vinateria. The 7-story, 2800 square foot mural is painted by Harlem-based Giannina Gutierrez to showcase the ..read more

On Halloween this year, many Harlem restaurants on Frederick Douglass Blvd handed out lots of candy to kids, even new businesses were prepared, such as Root Juicery of Harlem! (FYI. I posted about this place months back and either incorrectly named it or there was a change in ownership.) We learned over the weekend that this new cold press, juice joint is now open for business! Stop by Root at 2073 FDB for a smoothie, juice or a bowl! They have a wonderful menu to start! Here’s their IG account to follow! Photos by Harlemgal ..read more
