Skil has added a new chain saw to their 20V Max cordless power tool platform. It features a 6″ bar and chain, and can be extended to a length of 2.8 feet, which is a little over 33-1/2″. This doesn’t have the reach of a pole saw, but maybe we can consider it a mini pole saw. Skil calls it a “telescoping pruning saw.” The saw has a brushless motor, tool-free chain tensioning, and IPX4 water resistance. It also has an “EasyStorage” bracket for storage and organization. Skil says the pruning chainsaw can make up to 115 cuts per charge with the included 2Ah battery. The kit comes with the saw, 2 ..read more

Lowe’s Tape Measure Tips

Lowe’s shared some Kobalt tape measure tips on social media, and I’ve been debating whether they’re helpful or not. One of the tips is that you can use the tape for inside measurements. Inside of bending the tape measure, you can simply use the rear of the tape measure body as the reference end opposite the hook. I thought everyone knew this one. There is a measurement at the bottom of nearly every tape measure, indicating how much to add if using the rear of the tape body instead of where the tape enters its return slot. It’s a practical tip, and perhaps one that beginners don’t know about ..read more

Instagram served me an ad for the Komax face shield, and it looks interesting. Komax says their face shield is glasses-friendly, fog-free, anti-dust, and seals tightly from all angles and sides. At first glance, it’s got my attention. They’re also offering a limited time offer where you get “30% off.” At this time, the ad has been viewed over 886K times, and has more than 800 comments. Looks good, right? Over at the Komax website, the price is $39.95, from $49.99. Buy 2 or more, and get extra 25% savings for “a total discount of 45%.” The numbers don’t add up, but let’s ignore that for a mo ..read more

Milwaukee Fuel vs Brushless – What Does it Mean?
ToolGuyd

Milwaukee’s M12 and M18 FUEL cordless power tools are often their best and higher performing models. A Milwaukee M18 Fuel circular saw, for example, will deliver greater cutting performance than a non-Fuel model. From the beginning, Milwaukee Fuel cordless tools featured brushless motors. More specifically, most (if not all) M12 and M18 Fuel tools feature Milwaukee POWERSTATE brushless motors and REDLINK PLUS electronic controls and “intelligence.” But now there are a growing number of brushless M18 and M12 tools that aren’t part of the “Fuel” product family. For the longest time, most users ..read more

Harbor Freight Sent me Credit Card Preapproval

Harbor Freight sent me a credit card preapproval email today, and I found myself irritated by it. It’s been nearly 4 years since Harbor Freight launched their credit card, and I feel that they are constantly promoting it and their paid membership program. I don’t have a high opinion of store credit cards. Lowe’s recently upped their interest rate to an APR of 32%, and other home improvement and tool retailers have similar rates. Harbor Freight’s rate is 30%, and the same for Home Depot. Technically it’s 29.99%, but I tend to see things in round numbers. I was raised with the mindset that if I ..read more

A reader (thanks, Hunter!) tipped us off that Home Depot has a new Husky Build-Out promo image up, teasing that they’re going to launch new drawer too boxes and modular system accessories. Home Depot launched the Husky Build-Out modular tool box system in the summer of 2023, and this looks to be the major first expansion. From the promo image, it looks like there will be two drawer tool boxes – a 2-drawer box with shallow and deep drawers, and a 3-drawer tool box with shallow drawers.
