March 31 – Arsenal and Chelsea have made it two English clubs in the Women’s Champions League semi-finals. The last time two English teams reached this stage was in the 2017-18 season.
Chelsea came though a dramatic quarter final beating defending champions Lyon at Stamford Bridge on penalties after the tie was drawn 2-2 over the two legs.
Chelsea went into the match with a one-goal advantage from the first leg but Vanessa Gilles flicked a 77th-minute cornerpast Chelsea keeper Ann-Katrin Berger to take the match into extra time.

March 31 – FIFA’s lifetime ban on former Haitian Football Federation vice-president and head of referees Rosnick Grant has been upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
FIFA investigated Grant (pictured) as part of a probe into his boss, ex-Haitian FA president Yves Jean-Bart, following appalling allegations of sexual harassment.
FIFA’s Ethics Committee identified Grant as one of the perpetrators of sexual abuse and the life ban in 2021.

March 31 – Argentina is the frontrunner to host the U-20 World Cup which FIFA stripped from Indonesia over the country’s hostility toward finalists Israel. The South American country has submitted a formal bid to host the tournament, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on Thursday.
“We all know Argentine football and surely it can host a competition of this level,” Infantino told a news conference in Paraguay.

March 31 – Shakhtar Donetsk have filed a complaint against FIFA to the European Commission, claiming the global governing body’s ruling allowing foreign players to suspend their contracts has cost them €40 million.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, FIFA permitted foreign players based in the country to suspend their contracts until June 2023, allowing them to seal short-term moves elsewhere. Shakhtar and their CEO Serhiy Palkin protested the rule, but the Court of Arbitration (CAS) dismissed Donetsk’s claims.

March 31 – The next Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast will run from January 13 to February 11 next year, potentially throwing up yet another club versus country clash for top African players in Europe’s elite leagues.
The 2023 finals were postponed from June-July this year due to concerns over the weather at that time, and will instead be played in the middle of the 2023/24 European season.

March 31 – Iceland’s FA have parted company with head coach Arnar Vidarsson (pictured) after an underwhelming start to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
“We consider it necessary and correct with the interests of the team as a guide,” said the Football Association of Iceland (KSI) chairman Vanda Sigurgeirsdottir in a statement.
“Arnar has done many good things here at KSI and deserves praise for his work, which was often done in challenging situations.”

March 31 – Concacaf has released detail of the draw and seedings for the Gold Cup 2023 groups and preliminary plays offs.
The just completed Nations League qualified 12 teams directly to the Gold Cup finals, and a further 12 teams to the knockout stage that will qualify a further three teams. 2019 Asian Champions Qatar will play as a guest team.
The group draw will see the 12 qualified teams placed in three pots according to their Concacaf ranking.

March 31 – Wrexham, better know internationally for their Hollywood star owners and Netflix TV series than their football, will play Manchester United (generally known for their football but who don’t mind a bit of drama) will play a friendly match in San Diego July 25.
The match will be part of a summer tour by Manchester United in the US with the club putting out a youth-focused team from its travelling squad who will spend a week-long training camp in San Diego.

March 31 – Israeli forces broke into the Faisal Al Husseini international stadium last night and fired tear gas on to the pitch and into the stands, halting the final of the Abu Ammar Cup for an hour while players and fans were treated.
The Israeli attack appears to be unprovoked and the Israeli authorities have not issued a statement regarding the incident or who ordered the troops to attack players and fans in the stadium.
