The NBA has announced its finalists for their 2023-24 regular season awards and not only did Jayson Tatum not make the MVP final 3 cut, but no Celtics were among the twenty-one awards finalists. Six of the awards are for players and the last is for Coach of the Year. The voters chose the three coaches from the teams with surprising come ups in wins, the Thunder, Timberwolves, and Magic. As predicted Luka Doncic, of the Dallas Mavericks, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets were the three players selected. The Boston Celtics put a beatdown on the Miami Heat Sunday afternoon, coming out with a 114-94 victory in Game 1. The Celtics lead by as much as 34 in the win, cruising to a 1-0 series lead. Miami made it a little interesting in the 4th with a 26-7 run, but with Boston so far out in front, they never got the lead under 14.  This was a fantastic opening-day performance by the guys to build some confidence and set the tone for the rest of the series. The Chicago Bulls defeated the Atlanta Hawks last night to earn a rematch with the Miami Heat. The winner will capture the 8th seed and face Boston in the first round of the NBA playoffs. The Bulls and the Heat faced off last season with the 8th seed on the line and the Heat were victorious. Miami would go on to make it all the way to the NBA Finals. Unfortunately for the Heat not only did they lose last night to the 76ers, but it was learned after the game that their star Jimmy Butler suffered and played through an MCL injury and will now be forced to be sidelined for a few weeks. NBA commissioner Adam Silver today dropped the hammer on former Toronto Raptor Jontay Porter by disciplining him with a lifetime ban from the league. Porter is the perfect bit player for Silver to make an example of in order to dissuade more prominent NBA players from even thinking about getting involved with influencing or betting on NBA games.
