Sketchbook Pencil Pouch

This Sketchbook pencil pouch was the last gift I sewed up last year. It was a fun one, too! I hadn’t made a Canvas Pencil Pouch in a bit. The project is nice and quick! I made it even speedier by cutting the exterior using the lining template so it’s one solid fabric (instead of pieced). And you might be thinking, hmmm is that quilting cotton? Yes it is. I added a layer of a mid-weight fusible woven (EB woven fuse medium to be exact) over the SF101 (plus SF101 on the lining pieces). I think it turned out pretty good. There were a few wrinkles on the exterior, but they mostly ironed out. The R ..read more

2022 was actually pretty fun! Again this year I had to take a scroll through my pictures to figure out what exactly happened this year. On the personal side of things, my family had a fun year as well. We had cross country skiing fun, show choir competitions, lots of visits with family and friends to our new house, decorating the new house, landscaping, basketball, downhill skiing, hiking, a driver!, new friends!!!, a family trip to Chincoteague, a new sport for the girls – tennis!, so much soccer, and more. I’m truly grateful to be able to watch my children grow and be there for them. 2022 R ..read more

Denim and Walnut Redwood Tote

The pieces to this Denim and Walnut Redwood Tote were cut over a year ago. I was deep into making all the samples for my Around the Bend fabric collection and this color combo was one I just couldn’t put away. I ended up not having time to actually sew it after I cut the pieces (I sewed a different Redwood up instead). It got set it aside knowing I would eventually get to sewing it up. I wasn’t until earlier this fall that I pulled out the pieces (and re-cut the ones that got missing along the way, hahaha) that I got to work. View of Back Video to check out I made a few reels showing the proc ..read more

This project makes me happy! I hadn’t made a Road Trip case in quite a while, so it was fun to pull some fat quarters to get started on this Around the Bend Road Trip Case! I have my own Road Trip Case that I use when I travel for sewing retreats and teaching. Ahem, it’s been a while since I’ve gone to a retreat and since I’ve taught in person. I am hopeful that one or the other will happen again soon! I miss my sewing friends in person!!! So maybe this project is a little hint to myself to get going on making some plans already! This case is actually super handy, but not too full of compar ..read more

Denim Waxed Twill Making Backpack

Even though the recent addition to the Making Backpack was all about the Mini version, I couldn’t resist having a little fun with the Regular size. A denim waxed twill Making Backpack! This denim beauty is the Regular size (the original size from the pattern) with the new zippered front pocket option! I made this sample with waxed twill from AL Frances Textiles and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I might even go as far as to say that the waxed twill might be the perfect substrate for this backpack! It’s not as heavy as a 10 oz. waxed canvas, so it’s a little easier to work with. I ..read more

Mini Franken-Kånken

Oh my gosh you guys!!!! I am so thrilled with this project! My daughter went on her school trip to Disney last week and she requested a mini backpack. You know I love a backpack and I love making things my kids love and use. So I started out thinking I would make her my Making Backpack! I asked her about what size she wanted and she gave me some measurements from the mini Kånken by Fjallraven (it’s a Swedish based company and their Kånken style backpack has been around since 1978). It’s a total classic! And there are patterns that have similar features so that you can sew up your own – Sarah K ..read more

Twill and Leather Yarrow

I know you may have seen a quick glimpse of this sample in the Yarrow Sew-along video or in the pattern itself, but today I’m showing it off in all its glory! So, a couple of the testers (thanks Jordan and Katie!) who helped with the Yarrow both had this brilliant idea of using leather (or other non-fraying textile) as the front pocket and then adding rivets to the pocket. Of course I was smitten! So I had to sew up this sample right before the pattern release. Cotton Twill This rust color has to be my favorite of all time, it’s a cotton twill (6.5 oz. Japanese Cotton Twill in Copper) that I ..read more

Welcome to the Yarrow Wristlet & Pouch Complete Sew-along! This post contains the full list of newsletter’s that were sent out for the Yarrow Sew-Along (this sew-along was originally published via newsletter January 25th though February 10th, 2022). Still need to blog about this set! I’ll be sharing them in my next blog post. I am amazed to see all kinds of beautiful Yarrows popping up, it’s been so fun to see so many great fabrics being used! I think one of the most fun parts of a small project is the ability to use up scraps from other projects! Be sure to check out the #YarrowWristlet a ..read more
