This is part 2, the final part. Part 1 can be found here. And also, you can find Vlogger Will’s vlog of this session here. Check it out.  I believe you can see my hands quite a bit. While we were on the subject of my name, Emily mentioned she lived in or near Nottingham.  Of course, I made a Robin Hood reference and she decided she might start calling me Robin, because it was close to “Rob.”  Then she said that Lightning could be “LittleJohn.”  Lightning said his wife would dispute that.  Emily thoroughly enjoyed that and said, “Yes, of course, of course.  We’ll c ..read more

Quad Aces for the Re-suck!

(This is part 1 of I’m not sure how many parts) As you know from my last two entries here, I was in Vegas recently.  And I had a poker session that was so much fun that I just have to blog about it.  So at least for the time being, my blog is back. I was in Vegas for 12 days, and for much of the first week, my blogging pal Lightning was in town with me. In fact, he has already blogged about this night, which you can see here.  But now, for the first time, you will tell the true version of this night. Back in the day, I played a lot of poker at MGM, but not so much recently. It ..read more

Emily, are you still out there?  I hope so.  One of the stories you told me the other night reminded me of this incident I first described in a post I did over ten years ago which described an incident similar to the one you told me.....but with a very different result.  So I thought you'd be interested in reading this while you are patiently (I hope) waiting for me to write up the post about the session we had together.  This post was one of the most popular posts from the early days of my blog and in fact I've already reposted it once already!   You are of cours ..read more

Emily, this is for you. This is not a blog post, it is a blog tease. I want to make sure I blog about the fantastic session at MGM I had Thursday night, the highlight of which was not hitting quad Aces on the river for the resuck out on the guy who sucked out on my set of Aces with a turned straight.   No, the highlight was meeting Emily, the totally delightful lass from the U.K. that I played with that night.  BTW, it was her husband that hit the straight against my set of Aces.  I hope I remember all the fun things we talked about.  I know I won't forget about the qu ..read more

Part 2: We Cancelled Your Card Per Your Request Part 1 is here, and we pick up right where that one left off. I was about to give up but I saw the engagement ring guy talking to the guard (it was a different guard than earlier).  BTW, in the course of this ordeal, I found out that the guards do not even work for UPS, they are contracted out. He insisted that she call someone inside the facility and she did, and someone actually did come out to speak to us (I think there were three of us left; I’m not sure who the third person was).  That someone explained to both of us what happened ..read more

Part 1: I Guess UPS is a Mom & Pop Operation You might say this tale I’m about to tell has nothing to do with poker or Las Vegas, but you’d be wrong. This is the “87 part post” that I alluded to here about what I went through in order to be able to park for free at certain Vegas casinos on the Strip. Sorry to disappoint you, but it won’t quite be 87 parts. Two long posts will do (and this is the longer of the two, so once you’re finished with this one, it’s all downhill from here). When I visited Vegas in April, I was unable to park for free at any of the casinos owned by MGM Resorts ..read more

"You'll Read About it on the Blog!"

As I mentioned in one of my last two posts (or possibly both of them), I’ve been to Vegas twice since mid-April.  I’ve never told my stories in chronological order, so let’s start with the reason I went back there a second time, just at the end of May. My long time poker/blogging pal Lightning organized a Poker Blogger (and readers) Meet Up Game for May 30.  This was to celebrate the return of retired blogger Josie to Vegas.  It’s been 10 years since I first met Josie in person in Vegas. At her insistence, she has her own personal label on this blog, so you can find it on the ri ..read more

This is really a “guest post” from my friend Don, who I’ve mentioned numerous times on this blog. In fact, he’s done guest posts for me before, here, for example. I think the circumstances under which I received this report are interesting.  He didn’t verbally tell me this story, nor did he write it up as an official submission (as if this blog had anything as formal as an “official” submission!).  No, it was a series of text messages.   This was actually texted to me the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, which also happened to be the day I was driving up to Vegas myself for ..read more

Will I Ever Publish Another Blog Post?
Rob's Vegas and Poker Blog

Well, the question answers itself, doesn't it?  If you are reading this, the answer is decidedly yes! OK, so I guess what I mean then, is this my last blog post?  Will I ever publish another blog post after this one?   I think so. I intend to, anyway. Maybe another one very soon.   I just noticed that my last post was published in November of last year.  November!  Long time, no blog!   My productivity was already waning even before the initial lockdown hit, and after that, well, the lockdown took away my will to live write. And my ma ..read more

Yes, I've Played This Game Before, Honest!

So I actually played poker this past Saturday.  First time in like four months. The thing is, no one who saw me play this particular hand—the one hand I actually won—  would ever believe I’d actually played poker before—ever. My excuse is that it had been four months since I’ve played poker.  And also, well, I’ve played poker only eight times total (including this time) since early March, 2020. My  last session before Saturday was in late June.  Why haven’t I played since?  Several reasons, but the main one is the damn mask mandate.  Last couple of times I ..read more
