One of the most common questions I get asked about my pottery is whether it’s dishwasher safe. The answer is yes! My pieces are crafted to withstand being cleaned in the cycles of your dishwasher. But did you know they’re not just for serving and eating; they’re also great for cooking? You can use it in the oven to go from your kitchen directly to the table.
Autumn and winter is ideal for using pottery in the oven, baking apple crumbles or hearty casseroles and curries. You can also warm dinner plates in the oven so that your dishes are gentle warm to keep your meals hot for longer on the tabl ..read more

Creating branded pottery can be quite a challenging aspect of making but it is often requested for collaborations with other businesses. Normally I rely on tried and true methods like transfers, metal stamps, and rubber stamps to get logos onto clay. I recently tried something new - using my cricut to cut a custom logo stencil for Plewsy and applying it with black slip to a slab. I think this method could open up new possibilities for adding branding to pottery.
Transfers allow for quite fine detail and exact reproductions for logos but can be expensive due to the necessary third firing to adh ..read more

As the busy festive season approaches I wanted to keep you in the loop about some important dates for custom orders and shipping.
Custom order deadlines
If you’re hoping for a unique handmade piece this Christmas please place custom orders by November 22nd. This date may change if I’m very busy so they may close early. After that date I will still be taking orders but I’ll be focusing on finishing existing biscuit ware pieces to ensure everything arrives before the festivities!
Postage cut-off dates for the UK
For UK customers ordering I’d recommend not leaving it too late, I usually post out ..read more

This year I created something special for the Esk Valley Running Club as part of their summer series awards; a set of handmade commemorative ornaments. These ornaments were a great opportunity to create something unique, a nature inspired motif with personalisation for the club’s 2024 collection.
To bring a touch of the outdoors to each piece they have a nature inspired element - the pine one and frond motif. A rustic feel that seems fitting for a club with ties to the landscape. Each ornament is a clay disk with the pinecone carefully pressed into the surface. I added lettering to each one as ..read more

Occasionally I make things in the studio that are larger commissioned orders for prize giving or groups. This set of 40 mugs are the Esk Valley Running club’s summer awards series mugs that are due to be handed out this October. The mugs themselves feature imprinted text on the surface which has been done by hand in a kind of waving line which adds a dynamic look to these straight sided mugs.
Due to the amount of text on each one the design is a simple geometric form and a little set of footprints at the end just to give a little nod to fell running as a sport. Each one of these will be glazed ..read more

We’re now headed towards the busy winter season for 2024 and with that in mind I’ve been making and finishing decorations for the season. Some of these are returning favourites to the shop and some new ones.
Returning to the shop will be the hand carved baubles which have both a round and pointed shape, they come in a variety of bright colours to match in with whatever theme your tree has. From royal blues to bright candy pinks, each one has been hand carved reminiscent of traditional victorian style cut glass. Also returning are the flat medallion decorations featuring pine cones, gingerbread ..read more

Lately I’ve been working away on a new set of dog bowls for the Hoxton Hotel in Shoreditch in London. These bowls were designed by them and include the distinctive stylised Hoxton ‘X’ branding logo. This was impressed directly into the clay using a custom stamp. The grey colour blocking was added by painting slip directly onto the bottom of each of the bowls and a third firing was needed to add the text transfers.
If you’re looking to get custom pieces made for your business just get in touch to find out what we can do. You can also take a look at the kinds of homeware pieces we make over in t ..read more
