You may have noticed that some of the posts for the 25 Motif Challenge are extremely long. That happens when I get busy with things like vacations and renovations and can't do updates in a timely manner. From my perspective it means that when I do get to the update it's going to take an enormous amount of time. For example, Dec 30th's post took over 5 hours to complete and when I'm busy, that seems like an enormous time suck. I have noticed that we have gone from just under 100 participants down to 25 and that most of the items displayed are also being posted on Facebook. So I'm wondering if ..read more

Vera has posted some of the motifs she has been working on like these that can be used as bookmarks or ornaments. This one is something that she's been wanting to tat for a long time. For Christmas Vera has her stars all assembled and put into small bouquets. Pop Maria's last tatting for the year is this simple ring and chain edging turned into this gorgeous elegant two tone bracelet. Batty Tatter enjoyed this Tree Top Ornament from the book Tatting for Today by Marion T. Leyds, but her points didn't quite meet the ring. She added one more ring just below the clover on either sid ..read more

Vera has had a very productive time with lots of snowflakes done and even a few Christmas balls Sue returned from her lovely sunny vacation to a house that was freezing due to the gas going out and the heat being off and the leaking water from a burst pipe...but she did get some tatting done while she was away. This last one stayed behind with a lovely lady they met. Diane is making progress on her sister-in-law's runner and she has calculated that she has 11 more rows to go a 4 hours per row so it's going to take a lot more work. Her Christmas tree is decorated and all decked out ..read more

Vera went with a white ball and red tatting on this ornament just for a change. She first tried out the tatting and then formed it around the ornament. Red lace of white to go with the white lace on red ornaments she has already done. Melanie created a snowman for an ornament exchange worked in size 10 crochet thread with size 6 and 10 beads and in a few weeks time if anyone is interested she might be persuaded to put the pattern in writing. Cindy received these snowflakes in an exchange at the Twin Cities Tatters December gathering. Diane has managed to tat a simple   ..read more

Batty Tatter managed to have all but one of these finished before her retina surgery and was able to finish the last purple one after the operation. Diane pulled out all of the Ice Drops she couldn't bear to part with and set the others aside for Christmas in the Village and then she tatted a couple more. Another Minty Fudge Ice Drop done. Fox has 2 more motifs done for the centre and she's still enjoying it. The centre's finished and thanks to Frivole, she has an inset showing how the completed piece will look. Marie tatted Robin's Small Crystal Snowflake. Then there's Rose Snowf ..read more

Vera has been tatting ornaments working on Renulek's bell pattern which she likes. She did another based on Robin Perfetti's pattern. In all she did 4 ornaments. Cindy did some ornament testing and tatted the one on the left in size 20 thread, but she didn't like how it fit on the 80 mm ball which is just a bit larger than 3 inches. She tatted it again in size 30 thread but decided she liked the first one better anyway. Now that that's settled she's off to tat more ornaments, maybe the same thing in size 30 on a 70 mm ball. Fox has taken a break from interminable motifs to tat ..read more

Vera tatted Mary Konior's Queen of Hearts to add to this ornament to commemorate her 42nd anniversary. Batty Tatter has 12 Ice Drops ready for her Christmas market and one of these is already spoken for. Elsa has posted a tutorial on doing a lark's head join. Her bag is progressing slowly and has been facilitated by utilizing the lark's head join Melanie tried out Matilda, a pattern by Lee Hye-oon. Sue has taken a page from Jane Eborall's book and tatted a Rachel doily. Claire spotted a tatted collar used twice on the costumes in the series Downton Abbey. Diane has been busy cl ..read more

Vera bought some red thread last year and when she found it in her stash she decided to use it to make ornaments. She decided to stick with simple patterns and so far they are looking great. Sue shares with us the laces from the ladies at her local tat days. The bracelet was done by one of her students who learned to tat in March. Lastly are the pieces from their Christmas exchange. Diane used these lovely little pearlescent beads on this Ice Drop and her grandson chose the ribbon to go with it. She loves all shades of blue and even though the beads and ribbon don't exactly mat ..read more

Vera has finished blocking her snowflakes and she tried stiffening some of them and she has plans to add beads. I'm sure the translation is missing something because from the pictures it looks like she has plans to combine some of them for 3D snowflakes. We'll just have to stay tuned to see what develops. A section of Robin's design will make a nice ornament. Batty Tatter has enjoyed making Diane's Ice Drops and she's wondering if she needs to stiffen them or add frosty sparkles to use them for Christmas decorations. Elsa is enamoured of the centre of Jane McLellan's beautiful doil ..read more
