Happy Earth Day! (Here’s Our 9-Year Solar Update)

Is everyone having a good Earth Day? Ours isn’t so great. Every year, my wife organizes a town-wide “free-cycle” event. Everyone can drop off and/or pick up whatever they want. There are guidelines, so people can’t just bring their trash. It’s always a huge success—except for this year. Rain canceled the event. She’s looking to reschedule it for next month. It takes a lot of coordination to get the permits and volunteers. It’s good that we’ve been able to do it for four or five years without rain. I’m also surprised that I am publishing an article today. There are lots of big events happening ..read more

My Passive Income and Goals (March 2024)

I have published a passive income monthly update for more than seven years. For a decade, I’ve published regular life goals that I don’t update that often. This year, I’ve merged the two reports. I hope it will ensure that I am accountable for my goals at least once a month. It should be much better than looking at them once a quarter and thinking, “WOW, I didn’t do any of these.” Now, I can say that twelve times a year! ? All joking aside, putting goals in a spreadsheet and regularly updating it is very powerful. I’m incredibly proud of what I accomplished at the end of every year. Before I h ..read more

Title inspiration: Elton John Have you missed me since my April Fools prank last week? I’ve been working on new articles, but life is conspiring against me. I expected to publish a review Royal Caribbean and our 2-week March vacation today. I’ve got it more than halfway written, but it’s very long. It would be done by now, but on Friday my wife surprised me with, “I’m buying you a new car for your birthday! Let’s go!” That’s an extreme exaggeration, but we did spontaneously buy a new car. Look for that article in a week or two. Buying a new car is one thing, but getting it legally “on the road ..read more

I’m Going to Law School to become an Immigration Lawyer

Announcement Time! Preparing this one for a while. Really. I’m going to law school to be a lawyer. Little did I know that life would take this turn. Going to law school would have made a lot more sense when MLM companies sued me for defamation because I wrote that they were pyramid schemes. It’s not exactly a secret, as you can find a million videos on the subject. Finding a law school wasn’t difficult. Roger Williams University is practically in my backyard. One of the problems is the price. It’s going to be a lot of money. Of course, we can afford it. The stock market has been doing awesome ..read more

Do You Have Financial Regrets?

I’m back from my two-week vacation. It always seems that a two-week vacation requires three weeks of time off. It always takes me a few days to prepare to leave and a few days to catch up when I return. I plan to write a little more about my travels, but for now, I want to go into more depth on something I published while I was away. As part of my article, Site I Love: Get Rich Slick, I highlighted a few articles that I thought would interest readers. There was one article that particularly caught my attention, though. I purposely left that out because I felt I had too much to say. The article ..read more

How Do You Feel About Cashback Sites?
Lazy Man and Money Blog

Almost ten years ago, I wrote this article asking if people used cashback sites. I was around 38; our kids were just 1 and 2 years old. Our net worth was about a quarter of what it is now. Back then, I was a little unsure about chasing pennies. You’d think that might even be more true today, right? Maybe not. I’ll be keeping much of the article the same but adding in some new thoughts. I’ve been on the fence on cashback sites for a long time. I read many trusted friends and bloggers who rave about them. However, because I purchase almost everything on Amazon, I don’t think they’d work out that ..read more

I Tossed Dozens Personal Finance Books. These are Nine I Kept.

This year, Lazy Man and Money turns 18 years old. I may be ready to send it off to college and fend for itself. Over that time, I’ve had hundreds, maybe thousands, of publicists reach out to send me their clients’ books. For several years, I graciously accepted them. Who doesn’t love free stuff? Eventually, I realized the true cost was my time to read the book and write a review. I changed my policy to clarify that they are welcome to send me a book, but I can’t guarantee that I’ll read it or write a review. Since it only cost them a few dollars to send a book, most had no problem with that. I ..read more
