Have you gotten used to Dollar Tree’s $1.25 prices yet? Just wait til you start seeing price tags for $1.50, or $2, or more.
The dollar store chain, which “broke the buck” a year and a half ago by raising prices from its decades-long “Everything’s a Dollar” promise, is currently testing out additional price points. The new prices are above the $1.25 standard, and below the “Dollar Tree Plus” selection of $3, $4 and $5 products. We’re heading into the Memorial Day weekend, and the coupon insert publishers are taking a holiday break. There won’t be any coupons in your Sunday newspaper this weekend.
If you’re keeping score, this is the fifth weekend so far this year without any coupon inserts. Procter & Gamble once had us covered over Memorial Day weekend, but now that the company has quit publishing its brandSAVER insert, a holiday for SmartSource and Save means it will be an insert-free weekend altogether.

Any Kohl’s shopper knows you should never go there without a coupon. But lately, you just might, as the company is cutting back on deals. And now, Kohl’s says it has the results to prove its strategy is paying off.
