Sometimes an RVer just doesn’t feel like doing a lot of cooking. So, lately, some RV friends have been discussing using canned meat.
When I was traveling solo in my van I needed weight in the right front corner to make up for having no passenger. So I put a bag of tools and a bin of canned goods there to help balance my vehicle’s load.
Here’s some of my ideas and experiences from carry that bin of canned food.
Stir together equal amounts of mayonnaise and sour cream. Add generous amounts of onion powder and dill weed. Drain and stir in a can of baby shrimp. Add part of a bag of broccoli slaw ..read more

You all know how creative my brain sometimes gets at night. Last night it was especially weird.
A psychiatrist offered to help a prisoner get rid of the voices in his head that kept getting him into trouble. The prisoner responded, “No, thanks. They keep me company when I’m in solitary.”

For some unknown reason I recently started reading the book Philosophy 101.
So far, I’m learning a bit about various philosophers and theories.
The one that keeps resonating through my head is Existentialism.
I seem to have boiled it down to three words.
“I exist. Why?”

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time you know I often have some zany thoughts when I’m about to wake up.
This morning I was playing solitaire in my sleep.
Um, maybe I should play less of it when I am awake?

I just read something that started me thinking about needs.
“What did pioneer women pack in their covered wagons?”
Why would I need more than that?
My understanding is all their meals were cooked using one cast iron skillet and one Dutch oven. How many pots and pans do I really need?
I pretty much only use one chef’s knife and one serrated steak knife. Why do I have all those others in my knife block? OK, a second steak knife for Dave to use seems reasonable but six of them? We don’t have company for meals in our apartment. And why do we have a potato peeler even though we no longer cook?

The Ununited States of America
Did you read that correctly?
Not united but ununited.
I saw that on a video by an American who has been living abroad then returned for a visit here.
How many years has it been since we were the “United” States of America?
What will we do about that?
Anything?

I just read this and it made me laugh so hard I cried.
A Michigan woman and her family were vacationing in a small New England town where Paul Newman and his family often visited.
One Sunday morning, the woman got up early to take a long walk. After a brisk five-mile hike, she decided to treat herself to a double-dip chocolate ice cream cone.
She hopped in the car, drove to the center of the village and went straight to the combination bakery/ice cream parlor. There was only one other patron in the store: Paul Newman, sitting at the counter having a doughnut and coffee.
The woman’s heart ..read more

There are 26 letters in the English alphabet.
Everything ever written in English uses those same 26 letters.
Just arranged differently.

I like to know in advance what I’m going to need to deal with. I know lots of people who have had cataract surgery but none of them say anything more than they are glad they did it, some wish they’d done it sooner, one said it was a challenge keeping track of the timing of the drops, and one said yellow things are now white. So, I decided to give you details about my process in case you want to know more. If not, stop reading now.
For me, it started with a regular eye exam to get a new prescription. My doctor said she couldn’t get me all the way back to 20/20 so suggested I have my cataracts r ..read more
