Pro-Palestine students who established an encampment at White Plaza may face disciplinary action and possibly arrest, according to a Friday email from President Richard Saller and Provost Jenny Martinez. Protestors violated University policies against overnight camping in White Plaza’s free speech zone.
“In the OCS [Office of Community Standards] process, the violations that have been occurring may be punishable by sanctions up to and including suspension,” Saller and Martinez wrote. “The submission of student names to the OCS process has begun.”

The mass exodus of Stanford men’s basketball continues, as freshman guard Andrej Stojakovic has narrowed his transfer decision down to three schools, according to On3 Sports.
The 6-foot-7 sharp shooter is currently choosing between Kentucky, North Carolina, and U.C. Berkeley.
Stojakovic, a former McDonald’s All-American and five-star recruit coming out of high school, entered the transfer portal on March 18 following head coach Jerod Hasse’s dismissal — Haase recruited Stojakovic to play for Stanford.

Not every artist immediately shoots to stardom. Many of them take on other jobs to financially sustain themselves while developing their creative practices. Annie Zhu ’25 had never gone camping before her Stanford Pre-Orientation Trip (SPOT), but the prospect of doing something “new and fun with Stanford classmates” drew her to the program.
In the end, SPOT was not only an outdoor adventure, but a way to ease the transition into her freshman year. Before most first-year students arrive on campus for New Student Orientation (NSO) in the fall, a select few frosh are able to settle in earlier through pre-orientation programs.
Pre-orientation programs provide freshmen with a selection of curated experiences meant to enrich their transition ..read more

“‘Wait it out,’” Taber Cannon ’27 recalled their college counselor saying. “‘Wait it out, you’ll see.’”
At the time, in mid-May 2023, Cannon — who is a video staffer at The Daily — was on the waitlist for seven schools, including their top choices of Harvard, Duke and Stanford. They had committed to Colby College on May 1, National College Decision Day, but said he was “basically on edge the entire time.”
Gradually, the week of May 10, phone calls and emails started to roll in. Hamilton College, Tufts University and Swarthmore College — waitlists were beginning to shift and Cannon’s options we ..read more

Hundreds of pro-Palestine students reestablished a sit-in, an encampment of tents on White Plaza, Thursday afternoon following a march amid Admit Weekend activities. Around 300 protestors gathered in Main Quad and the Oval for the march but by the end grew to 450 people.
The encampment follows a national wave with some clashes between protestors and police.
The organizers, a coalition of students called Stanford Against Apartheid in Palestine (SAAP), wrote online that they were rallying “against Stanford’s complicity in the ongoing genocide.”

Five sources included in this article requested anonymity due to fear of professional retaliation. Many former employees expressed concern about speaking on experiences in the admissions and financial aid office because of ties between Stanford’s office and the broader admissions community.
The Daily also used gender-neutral descriptors and withheld specific dates and other information, instead using general timeframes and descriptions, to protect sources’ identities. Pseudonyms were used to improve readability.

Dear roommate,
I still refer to you as “my roommate” to other people even though we haven’t been roommates for the past year; my inability to let go of this naming is perhaps an inability to let go of the phrase’s specific intimacies that “friend” doesn’t capture. Nearly every night for two years, we’d brush our teeth and wash our faces in the FloMo and Ng bathrooms, we’d get up at 7 a.m., or 7:30 a.m. or 7:55 a.m. to get breakfast. The promise that I would see you at the end of every day comforted me.
I remember the first time I took an afternoon nap in our one-room Cardenal double, and ..read more
