Daiso (and other) delights

AWOL again, but this time there were minis involved. I headed back to New Zealand for my regular visit, and trip to Daiso: but this time I didn't have to buy minis there (although I did) because Daiso Wellington had posted some photos of their new minis on social media a couple of months ago and I'd panicked that they'd all be gone by the time I got there and sent a local (and lovely) friend on a quest to buy what I was after. And here's my haul: The bed intrigued me, and I imagine it spray painted in lovely colours, with proper bedding: And I was excited to see that they had the Eames chai ..read more

My heart is singing, but my budget is reeling (sorry: it's not a dolls' house!)

I've been a bit AWOL for the past couple of weeks, because my mind has been focused on things not-mini (alas). One of those things was the idea of upgrading my current scoot. When I test-rode one option last month and discounted it as a possibility, Nico (the owner of our local, and fabulous scooter shop), said to visit in a month because he had another one he thought I might like that he needed some time to get ready for sale. So I popped in to visit Thursday after work, only to be told to come back today. Which I did. Silly me. Because there was Mickey. A lovely 2002 Vespa PX200 (75cc ..read more

Feeling like I'm at a crossroads

R Jones' commented on my last post, which included an update to the dark academia trial scene with the addition of the writing desk, some moving of things around, and the addition of more books, saying that they thought it looked fantastic, to which I replied that I thought it was veering into 'crazy old professor' a bit far but a) isn't that what dark academia is based on and b) does it matter if it does? Which gave me pause for thought. The lovely thing about creating scenes, not the more-static dolls' house room, in the ability to (as is common to say these days, and which grates on m ..read more

It's showtime

I spent this evening helping set up for this year's ACT Miniature Enthusiasts show, which is on tomorrow and, since many hands make light work and I'd got a lift over with a friend who was still finishing her task, was able to catch up with people I've not seen in years (it's been 5 years since I've been to a show!), and have an early sneaky peek at the stalls that had set up this evening. I know I don't need anything, but had set aside a small budget in case something caught my eye (or my heart), and I ended up coming home with a few random bits and bobs: apologies in advance for the bad li ..read more

Sunday: sitting and thinking

Last time I blogged, Instagram had eaten my pictures. This time, work and life have eaten my brain. Good thing I have a 4-day weekend to recover, because it's only today, on day 3, that I've made it back into the studio to list the next round of items I'm deaccessioning, make room on my work table again and return to staring at the beginnings of the scene I started last month: It's progress ..read more

A busy weekend (and an Instagram that ate my pictures)

I was all set to blog on Saturday as I went to mini club meeting, and then on to the inaugural meeting of the Vespa Club of Canberra, but Instagram was being a poo bum and ate my pictures while I was trying to post: and those of you who use Instagram understand that it doesn't spit pictures out onto your phone until you've posted them (and sometimes, as is happening at the moment for me, not even then). So I was grumpy, and didn't want to publish a post without a picture, then Sunday got away from me and here we are. With a picture. With the annual ACT Miniature Enthusiasts show coming ..read more

Throwback Thursday: an old tutorial

Today's the end of the month and the end of the season so I have a pile of life admin tasks that need my attention, and was pleased that it's Thursday so I can justify a throwback post. While checking the back end of my blog at lunchtime today I noticed that my most-visited post is my tutorial from 2010 on printing on fabric using your home printer, which I figured was old enough to share again. But, because a photoless post is pretty boring, I decided I should pull together some photos of scenes where I used fabric I'd printed: First up, I made some bunting from some leftover piece ..read more

I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned this here, but I have a page on Facebook for this blog where I post every time I add a post (and sometimes in between, if I have something interesting to share). I started it about the time that RSS feeds became more problematic: if you want to be alerted when I post here, you might like to consider following it ..read more

Not much progress around here today

Work is killing my creativity today, so this is far as I got mini-wise: Starting to pull together some items that may work for the dark academia room I'm contemplating to set my new portrait in: the rug I picked up and Trash 'n' Treasure in the beforetimes, the dresser I put together last month, and a Monstera pot plant from my recent short-lived obsession with the Miniverse Lifestyle plants. I also packed up some Lundby-scale items I recently sold on a Facebook group and got them in the post, but that's pretty boring and not worthy of photographic evidence ..read more
