Bikepacking 4 Rivers – Day 2 to Yeoju

Day 2 of Bikepacking 4 Rivers brought me through the heart of Seoul. Take note that this is a detour from the main “Four Rivers” trail. Refer custom Google Map‘s red icons for more clarity (or confusion :p ) Day 2 – 4 Rivers trail Seoul to Yeoju Refer picture below. I had purposely detoured because I wanted to explore some famous attractions in downtown Seoul on two wheels. Kakao Map and Naver Map will likely ask you to cycle on BUSY pedestrian foot paths.  And Seoul is packed with folks! You are unlikely to cycle faster than 15kmh on the pavements. If confident, go on the roads ..read more

Bikepacking Seoul to Busan – Day 1 cycle to Seoul downtown

Bikepacking Seoul to Busan took me 7D6N. In my first post, I had shared about the logistics of bike boxing, and cycling out of Incheon Airport to Ara West. As mentioned in my first blog post, it is almost 80km from Airport to Seoul (Hongdae). That would be easily 5 hours on the road, do buffer enough time to reach your motel earlier. I only pre-book a motel for the first night, the other nights are all walk in. It is very discomforting for me, as I was worried about room and motel availability. Many folks have done it, you are safe.   Bikepacking Seoul to Busan Breakdown of my Four R ..read more

5D4N Cycle to KL bikepacking, six of us completed the 460km journey last October. Before this, the furthest multi-day trip I did was 3D2N to Malacca. (This blog post is 3 months late) Cycle to KL trip was a milestone for most of us.  Self supported tour, own navigation and exploration. Happy to meet our objectives In fact, cycle to KL trip was a good base training (and validation) for my Korea (Seoul to Busan) ride.  You can watch my Korea cycling videos here. Custom Google Map below captures our 5D4N Cycle to KL trail. Please view with Desktop for better experience. We have added P ..read more

Bike Boxing overseas and cycling from Incheon Airport to Seoul

Bike boxing overseas was one of the challenges, when I decided to solo Seoul to Busan trail, aka 4 Rivers. After 7D6N 680km in October 2023, I successfully completed the 4 rivers trail. This was a new milestone for me. but, there were many doubts … How should I plan my days, where should I stay? Will language and food be an issue? Can I scale the mountains? I will miss Google! Surprisingly, the two initial doubts are those of bicycle boxing (and courier), and how to travel out of Incheon Airport with my bicycle! What happens if my bike does not arrive? Or if damaged during transit ..read more

Our 8D7N Kyushu itinerary was the most challenging diy tour which I had planned thus far. We covered Northern Kyushu in 8D7N, which was barely enough. You will need two weeks to cover the whole of Kyushu. *I can only add selection of photos in this blog. All our Kyushu photos have been uploaded to Facebook, links at the end of this post. YouTube Video (8D7N Kyushu Itinerary) This trip was meant as a Dad Son bonding trip. No2 Boon Kang is going to enlist very soon. Last minute planning, and we shortlisted Hokkaido, Tokyo, Osaka/Kyoto and Kyushu. Kyushu or Osaka Kyushu did not disappoint. The ..read more

Cycling to Elephant Rock in Senai Johor. This was what 14 of us did early September 2022. We have seen the various trips undertaken by other cycling kakis, and the mesmorising green palm tree plantations from the top! Elephant Rock, also known as Elephant Hill Rock is located at Senai, Johor. The official name is (Bukit Batu Gajah 柔佛州泗隆象石山). Actually, this rock is more popular with hikers than cyclists. Elephant Rock is about 40km from customs, and take note of the almost 1000m elevation (aka slopes) from my Strava screenshot. This tour is challenging for new riders, build up your fitness with ..read more

Cycling to Pontian Johor

Cycling to Pontian (笨珍) was my 6th Johor trip. This is also our group’s furthest adventure yet. To and fro distance in Johor was about 120km. Normally, travellers might bypass small towns like Pontian. Singaporeans might be more familiar with Pontian wanton noodle. As we grow older, I wish to explore older towns like Pontian, Muar, Batu Pahat. I do prefer older town compared to new towns (more touristy) like Mount Austin, Bukit Indah or even Kukup. The old school feel, the laid back community, and of course glorious food. At this point, you should be aware that the “original” Pontian Wanton n ..read more
