Happiness is.... cherishing the old
A Happy Mum

旧的不去,新的不来。 This Chinese saying essentially means that to make way for the new, we have to get rid of the old. I think there's truth in that but there are also times when the old is worth clinging onto or we just can't to see it go. Like a sentimental piece of clothing, a place of attraction that holds many fond memories, a bracelet that belongs to Grandma, a well-loved book that has been re-read thousand of times and so on. In this post of "Happiness is...", it's about welcoming the new while also cherishing the old. ****** We visited Bird Paradise for the very first time since it opened its d ..read more

Happiness is... not being too hard on yourself
A Happy Mum

If there's one thing that I would want my kids to learn, it's how to embrace failure in life.  While we all love to taste the sweetness of success, it's important to remember that it usually goes hand-in-hand with failure and comes as a result of sheer hard work and determination. When we fail to achieve something, it is how we get the opportunity to learn, to figure out what went wrong, to develop a growth mindset, and to make ourselves stronger and more resilient as we set out to try again. Instead of being putting ourselves down when the results don't meet our expectations, we should f ..read more

Our 4D3N family trip to Desaru
A Happy Mum

We love travelling as a big family and are blessed to be able to bring our parents, who get along really well, on holidays overseas. Even though we gather quite often at our place for festivities, it's different when you visit a foreign place and go sightseeing together. The last time we went abroad together was in December 2019, right before the pandemic hit. We went to Club Med in Bintan and it was an enjoyable trip for everyone. I do wish we can bring our parents to further places like Japan or even Europe but it costs a bomb even for our family of six alone, which is why we are still stick ..read more

Happiness is... having a well-deserved break
A Happy Mum

School holidays are always worth looking forward to because they are usually jam packed with lots of fun activities. I always think that it is a well-deserved break for the kids after working so hard for the whole semester. As for myself, I much appreciate not needing to wake up early every morning and love that we are able to do what we want and go where we want as a family.  It might sound weird but I also love having everyone at home even if it means living in chaos every single day. Yes, it's definitely very noisy and rowdy and full of endless bickers but deep down, I know these are t ..read more

Happiness is... creating a treasure trove of memories
A Happy Mum

生不带来,死不带去。 We bring nothing with us when we are born, we take nothing with us when we die. That is why I think that tangibles like money and valuables as well as intangibles like fame and power should not matter so much to us during our lifetime. At least, I don't think they matter a lot to me. What matters more to me is building up a drawer upon drawer of cherished memories, spreading kindness to family and friends, finding the simple joys and making sure that we love hard, love deep and love from the heart. In this post of "Happiness is...", it's about creating a treasure trove of memories b ..read more

Happiness is... turning a year wiser
A Happy Mum

April makes a special month for me because it is the month in which I was born in 1983 and then got married in 2008. Yup, that also means I officially stepped into the 40s club upon celebrating my birthday this year. It wasn't a lavish or over the top affair because simplicity has always been more of my style. Moreover, some of us had fallen sick during that period so in order not to spread the virus to others, we chose to stick to ourselves and have a cosy celebration as a family of six. I will dedicate another post for more details and thoughts on turning 40 but here's a quick look at how th ..read more

Happiness is... being together

I love the March holidays even though it only lasts a week. I mean, a week is not that short too and it is a much appreciated and well-deserved break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Even though it is technically for the kids to take a break from school and from the endless homework, I think I look forward to it as much as they do because I truly enjoy having all the kids at home, of knowing that we can switch off our early morning alarms for the time being and having the freedom to do what we want every single day. I think that is also why I love weekends so much because I see every ..read more

Happiness is... loving the simple days
A Happy Mum

It's been getting a little harder to find time to sit down to blog these days. With the proliferation of social media tools like Instagram and TikTok, it also seems like less and less people are taking the time to blog. I mean, do people even still read blogs or is it getting a little out of touch and seems too long-winded for most people who only have a couple of minutes to spare each day? As the kids grow up, it also seems like I should respect and protect their privacy and not put everything out in public. I face ups and downs in my life as a mum every single day and it seems unfair and un ..read more

Let's have a Cocomelon Party - Ansel is 2!
A Happy Mum

Woohoo! Ansel turned two earlier this year and to celebrate his special day, we kept our tradition of having a simple DIY celebration at home. He is the 小宝贝 of our family and we wanted to make him feel extra happy and loved on this day. It was easy to brainstorm for his birthday theme this time round because he has a clear favourite these days and that is...... Cocomelon! Yup, he loves singing their songs, watching the videos and especially adores JJ who is also the cute baby in their family. Once the theme was decided, we proceeded to plan for the decorations, games and activities. I always l ..read more

Happiness is... enjoying a new beginning
A Happy Mum
by ~Summer~

The start of a new year is always something to rejoice about because it symbolises hope, gives motivation and brings joy. While I greatly enjoy Christmas and the festive year end, I also love a new beginning because it gives me another chance to achieve the things that I wish to do and resolve any unfulfilled resolutions I have. By resolve, it doesn't always mean that I succeed in achieving my aim but it means that I make peace with myself if I have any unfulfilled wishes. It doesn't, and shouldn't, stop me in making new resolutions for the new year because our aims in life change as we grow a ..read more
