The Fire played what is likely to be their last regular season home game at SeatGeek Stadium in front of 17,748 fans. A 2-2 draw against Toronto FC was entertaining was not enough to keep their postseason hopes alive. The visitors scored first in the 59th minute when Brandt Bronico slipped at midfield creating a chance for Marco Delgado to find Jozy Altidore 1v1 against Francisco Calvo. The big forward fought Calvo off to clear some space and nutmeg Kenneth Kronholm for the lead. The Fire scored the next two goals as substitutes Aleksandar Katai and Fabian Herbers found the back of the net. Ka ..read more

What Are They All About? Toronto FC Hanging on by a thread. This past weekend the Chicago Fire Soccer Club drew 0-0 against FC Cincinnati in Ohio. The result could have caused irreversible damage to the Fire’s playoff hopes but with a weekend of shocking results in which the Eastern Conference standings remained largely unchanged and midweek results going their way as well, they are still alive in the post season hunt. They host Toronto FC this Sunday at SeatGeek Stadium (4:00 CT on ESPN+) in what may be the last Fire match to be held in Bridgeview. With a move to Soldier Field on the horizon ..read more

A 0-0 draw in away to Cincinnati brought the Fire to 38 points on the season with two games remaining. The attack couldn't find a way to dent a defense that had allowed a league-worst 74 goals. A few close calls for both sides led to a disappointing result for the Fire, who will certainly need to win their last two matches to maintain any hope of catching New England in the seventh spot in the East. The Revolution drew 0-0 at home against Real Salt Lake. Fire line-up Kronholm; Kappelhof, Schweinsteiger, Calvo, Bornstein; McCarty, Bronico (Herbers 77'); Sapong (Katai 66'), Gaitan (Mihailovic 58 ..read more

What Are They All About? FC Cincinnati Holding on. This past weekend the Chicago Fire Soccer Club kept its slim playoff hopes alive with a 4-0 home victory over FC Dallas. A sublime performance from a squad that has always been capable of such matches saw Joe Mansueto’s sole ownership of the club start off on the perfect note. While some detractors may say that Dallas’ backline looked like it had never played together before, the fact of the matter was that the Fire were clicking superbly, and the visitors never stood a chance once the opening whistle was blown. The Fire's post-Hauptman era has begun with a comfortable 4-0 victory over visiting FC Dallas. They also pulled back to within three points of the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference with three games remaining. CJ Sapong intercepted a horrid back pass attempt in the 7th minute and worked his way around goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez to give the Fire an early lead. The Fire doubled the lead in the 16th minute when Jonathan Bornstein kept possession at midfield and allowed Brandt Bronico to skip a cross into Przemyslaw Frankowski at the far post for a tidy finish. Sapong headed in Nicolas Gaitan's ..read more

Przemyslaw Frankowski's 94th minute goal save a point for the Fire in Columbus. With the Fire pushing for an equalizer and clinging to faint playoff hopes, Djordje Mihailovic played a ball on the left side of the box to Aleksandar Katai, who moved in closer before finding Frankowski open on the opposite side for a one-time finish past Crew goalkeeper Eloy Room. Columbus had been riding a 27th minute long distance score by Pedro Santos. His left-footed attempt from about 24 yards out beat a diving Kenneth Kronholm to his right. The Fire remain four points out of the seventh spot in the East wit ..read more

What Are They All About? Columbus Crew  A valiant effort. This past weekend the Chicago Fire Soccer Club lost on the road against the New England Revolution by a score line of 2-1. A highly contested match and a fairly impressive road showing was squandered by a late Chicago mistake as Gustavo Bou pounced on a misplaced Francisco Calvo pass in transition before emphatically putting the ball into the roof of the net. The result means that the Fire sit four points outside of a playoff place with just five matches remaining in the season. Although head coach Veljko Paunovic has been cal ..read more
