Cosy pubs in Stoke Newington?

It’s my girlfriends birthday on Wednesday and we’re going to spend the day mooching around town. We decided we should go somewhere we haven’t really been before to explore and landed on Stoke Newington. We’d like a cosy pub for some lunch, one with a fireplace would be ideal but not compulsory, or even board games etc. Any suggestions? submitted by /u/MrHankMardukas_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Recommendations for specific bars/third spaces with a 'layout/format' in London that make meeting people on a night out easy?

Looking to plan a birthday night out for me and my friends (4, all M25-30). As most of us are single, I was wondering if anybody could recommend a bar or other kind of indoor space with a layout conducive to meeting groups of women our age - perhaps someplace with long shared tables/bench. The typical bar/club environment doesn't really work for most of our group - we're pretty average guys and besides its extremely hard to hear people anyway. To give you a specific idea of what I mean - on holiday a few of us were out in Budapest in a bar with a massive long central table and we had groups e ..read more

Hi every1ne ☀️ I've been in the United Kingdom for three years. I came here on a university exchange and fell in love with Kent, Canterbury. While I fell in love with the country, which is not far from home but had a different culture, people's thinking, and so on. I really loved the academic side of education as well. I met a professor with whom I am now pursuing my Ph.D.; everything is moving along smoothly, and nothing could be better on that front ! Fortunately, I also met my partner here in Canterbury, Kent. She is now working in London, while I am finishing off the last year and a half ..read more

London is a city designed for people.

I noticed this. As someone who grew up in a town outside the capital, every time I visit London, I’ve come to realise this city is built for people. Because if it wasn’t, there wouldn’t be so many people working and living in London. I think this is also a testament to its amazing public transport infrastructure and urbanised areas. (Perhaps this is the key to high economic activity, and why capital cities end up becoming capital cities.) submitted by /u/TheTabar [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Job hunting in London has drained the life out of me

I've been on and off job hunting for about 6 months now, as a 20 year old with minimal work experience (I worked in high-end hospitality for over a year). My previous job was absolute hell. From the management to the employees, lack of organisation and amount of work we had to do during a shift. It made me hate my life and felt ethically wrong. (Keep in mind that this was a huge company who claimed to treat employees really well. The irony..) I decided to look for jobs that would interest me more and that would help me meet like-minded people since I'm also finding it hard to connect to peopl ..read more

Hi all, Looking at buying a vintage Omega dress watch from between 1950s to 1992. I'm looking for any recommendations for shops that will sell these types of watches (and other brands of watches) in London that are reasonably priced? Doesn't necessarily have to have box and papers, but would certainly help! TIA! submitted by /u/TheLitigator [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Do any other born and bred Londoners in their 30s feel like not being able to afford to move out has put their life on hold?

I'm in my 30s single and living with parents in Zone 3. I have a moderate salary of £45k which is fine but not the greatest in London. After deductions my salary is about £2600. My options are: Continue living with parents while saving up for a deposit Rent an overpriced room or flat for the sake of independence and "growing up" but give up the ability to save. I'm living the first option and have made some savings but given how expensive housing is, even in crappier parts of the capital, I wonder if it's even worth it. I'd like to move out but rent and energy costs are so high that it ..read more
