TMI: When Nature Doesn’t Call
Another Mother Runner
by Beth Probst

Total disclaimer: This is a TMI post about a daily occurrence I never really thought about until it stopped happening. Yep. I’m going there. Constipation. Similar to many mother runners, I care a lot about my health. I’ve spent a lot of time learning to embrace my larger size, while also seeking long-term sustainable solutions to living a healthy life. I watch my numbers closely and utilize the principles in Atomic Habits to create small changes (or votes) on the person I want to become. This past summer, that included taking AMR’s Perimenopause class. The series of conversations were just a ..read more

Running Advice for Your Younger Self
Another Mother Runner
by Cathy

The first time I ever ran 6 miles, my mom drove the distance with me to celebrate and clock the mileage on her car’s odometer. I had done an out-and-back to the cathedral in St. Paul, MN, and it was the farthest I’d ever run. I was positively levitating with joy, and we marked the occasion with a photo, proof that my run existed because Strava did not. That was 30 years ago. I am now the same age my mom was when we took that picture. Since then I’ve gained oodles of running knowledge. I know my way around fartleks, tempo runs, hill repeats, and negative splits. I know how much fuel I need for ..read more

Boston Marathon Training: Random Acts of Friendship
Another Mother Runner
by Sarah Flynn

From solo to soul-filling: Sarah Wassner Flynn shares how an unexpected act of friendship boosted her on a long training run for the Boston Marathon.  I arrived in Boston for the New Balance Indoor Track National Championships on a Wednesday evening. My schedule there was intense, to say the least: Competitions every day until Sunday, team meetings at night, squeezing in meals at odd hours, and trying to get a little work in the narrow cracks of down time that I had. But, being on the coaching staff of one of the top track teams in the nation with nearly 30 athletes competing and all the ..read more

My First Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Visit
Another Mother Runner
by Dimity

You know you’re at a pelvic floor physical therapist when this kind of art adorns the walls. Source This week, apparently, is Dimity deep dive week on the Another Mother Runner blog. On Tuesday, we went deep into my protein intake, and today, we’re headed into my glutes and pelvic floor. Good times, amiright? For the past five or so months, I’ve been having some piriformis (deep glute) and lower back pain issues. The fun started in November, and I finally saw a physical therapist in early January and have been going regularly ever since. The pain is receding incrementally, which is both gr ..read more

Dimity Does a Protein Audit
Another Mother Runner
by Dimity

My evening snack: House brands for the win! Unless you’ve been hiding under a box of family-size Honey Nut Cheerios, you know that protein consumption is all the rage these days. It’s as trendy as wondering where Kate Middleton is or complaining that the Barbie Movie was robbed at the Oscars. Unlike snooping around the royals or dissing on I’m Just Ken, protein, however, is a worthy trend, especially if you have an active, aging body like I do. This past year, despite lifting heavy weights three times a week and keeping most of my endurance activities in a low aerobic zone, I have gained we ..read more
