A Sequin Knit Cardigan using The Sewing Workshop Cascade Dress Pattern

If you follow the Fabric Mart Fabricista blog, you've already seen my sequin cardigan in my April post.   However, I want to document my makes here also as it provides reminders to myself regarding any changes I made.  For my sequin cardigan, I used an out-of-print (OOP) Sewing Workshop pattern, the Cascade Dress.  I don't recall the year the pattern was released. However, I do recall buying it at a sewing expo when it was a new release. One of the samples was sewn in a burnout velvet and it was gorgeous! Remember when Linda Lee used to be a vendor/teacher at the sewing expos ..read more

BurdaStyle Jan 2023 Blouse 104 - A Boho Blouse with BIG Sleeves

Even though they've been around for awhile, I'm still liking the statement sleeve trend. That's why I put this top on my to-sew list as soon as I received my January 2023 issue of BurdaStyle magazine.  The magazine describes the blouse as "this blouse has the look of a lavish bouquet. Its secret? XL puff sleeves whose tiny gathers ensure that the flowing viscose drapes beautifully".  It's a cute description but doesn't really tell you much about the blouse, except it does indeed have big sleeves!  Let me provide a few more details for you. It is a pullover style, with a v-neck ..read more

Itch to Stitch Tustin Dress - Easy to Sew Side Tie Knit Dress

I didn't know I needed a side tie knit dress until I sewed this one!    This is the Itch to Stitch Tustin Dress (aff link) that was released April 1, 2023.  I tested the pattern, but in all honesty, I was hesitant to do so. I really did not think this was going to look on me. I was sure this style would not work on my large bust, short-waist, and almost non-existent waist. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I like the dress. The easy-to-sew knit dress has options for regular and full bust, options for short or long sleeves, a wide neckline finished with a neckban ..read more

Vogue 1339 Guy Laroche - A Valentine's Day Red Dress

This red dress is from a pattern I had purchased in 2013 (when it was released).  With draping and ruching back in fashion (honestly, for me it never went away!) I decided it was time to sew the dress. It only took me 10 years :-) Let's talk about the pattern for a moment. This is Vogue 1339, a Guy Laroche design.  The description reads "Pullover dress has loose-fitting, blouson bodice with right shoulder and waistline pleats, stay, close-fitting, gathered and pleated skirt, with no side seams, left side front seam, pleated, single-layer flounces (wrong side shows), and slit. Very ..read more

My Red Christmas Dress - Vogue 1037

I have so many things I sewed last year that I've neglected to add to my blog so some upcoming blog posts are going to be past makes.  As much as I enjoy putting a quick photo on Instagram, and a short pattern review in my YouTube makes videos, I find it difficult to search for specific details on a pattern when I want to reference a past make. Blogging what I've sewn will help me remember more of the details.  Like my red Christmas dress. Well, it's actually a red top and skirt. The pattern is Vogue 1037, a Bill Blass design from 1983. I stumbled across the pattern a few months ag ..read more

Ugly Christmas Sweater Ornaments
Sharon Sews

About six or seven years ago I purchased an ugly Christmas sweater cookie cutter. Every December my daughter and I would spend a Saturday baking and decorating ugly Christmas sweater cookies.  We had a lot of fun, but I'll be honest with you. I'm much better at sewing than I am cookie decorating!  After we moved, I realized it's not much fun to bake and decorate cookies alone.  So last year when I pulled that cookie cutter out, I used it as a template to create ugly Christmas sweater mug rugs that I sewed for gifts.  I even filmed all the steps for a YouTube tutorial video ..read more

Sew a Christmas Patchwork Reversible Half Apron

My latest blog post for the BERNINA We All Sew blog was just published - this cute reversible patchwork apron!  I love to bake Christmas cookies and since I'm quite the messy baker, I always wear an apron.  Personally, I like half aprons, which is why I designed a half apron for this project.  I was inspired by a Riley Blake Christmas Joys 5" stacker I bought at my BERNINA dealer (A Nimble Thimble in Tyler, TX). The retro print is just so cute!  The step-by-step instructions can be found on the We All Sew blog here ..read more

McCall's 8339 - A Twist Front Knit Dress
Sharon Sews

I'm a sucker for any knit garment that includes a drape or a twist. In fact, I've sewn quite a few over the years. Unfortunately I don't have many photos of them as I've misplaced the zip drive that held the pics of many of my sewing projects.  When the McCall's fall 2022 patterns were released, I knew I'd purchase this one when it was on sale.  Why? Because of that twist front! The dress pattern is McCall's 8339.  There's no description provided with the pattern, so you have to look at the line drawings for details. At least this pattern included finished garment measurements ..read more

An Animal Print Sewing Workshop Helix Top

Everytime Linda Lee wears a Helix top on one of her Facebook Live videos (also posted on their YouTube channel) I tell myself I need to sew a Helix!  This past week I finally sewed one just to test the fit.  I bought the pattern quite some time ago, but whenever I would think about sewing it, I'd wonder about sizing.  If I used my full bust measurement (which is what Linda Lee usually recommends) I would sew a size large.  However, my upper bust measurement puts me in a small.  I know from experience that many Sewing Workshop patterns are oversized, so I chose to sew ..read more

Itch to Stitch Sabalito Top - A Dolman Sleeve Pullover Top

Nearly a year ago I purchased the Itch to Stitch Sabalito Top*, with plans to stitch one up right away.  Ha, ha, ha! Judging from my laughter, you know that didn't happen. As soon as I downloaded the pattern, I printed and put it together, traced my size, and tucked it away.  I pulled that pattern out at least a dozen times over the past eight months but for some reason I was never motivated to actually sew the top.   Until last week. This is the fourth year that I've experienced the East Texas fall weather, and I'm still not used to it!  When you spend the majority o ..read more
