We are a retired couple in their 70s. Last March, we spent a wonderful month in a small and peaceful rental near Armação de Pêra(Portugal). We rented a car and enjoyed day trips visiting villages throughout the Algarve. We also appreciated coming back to the villa to enjoy the magnificent cliffs and sea view with a glass of wine from our balcony

We are searching for a similar experience for 2024 but this time in the Costa del Sol. I have looked at a few sites but they look crowded with a lot of condos. Do you have any suggestions?

I think I might stretch over to Malaga, a more traditional town.

You might want to check the area beyond Estepona, maybe Puerto de la Duquesa. The jumble of high rise has petered out as you approach the west of Estepona and PdlD is a lovely quieter area. Sotogrande is a bit further down the coast and a bit more "genteel"with lots of golf and easy access to Gibraltar.
Alternatively you could go to the east of Malaga towards Nerja and Rincon de la Victoria, again quieter places with a good choice of apartments or villas to rent.
