Florence Weather

We are leaving in a couple days for Florence, then Rome. I'm really worried about the weather. Looks like it's going to rain the whole time we are there. I'm just sick about it. We have tours planned all around Florence. And plan on taking the train lots of places. My questions are the weathermen/women pretty accurate in Italy, because our weather persons are wrong most of the time. I sure hope they are wrong over there.. But the radar looks like lots of rain.

I have an umbrella and a rain jacket.

Thanks,
Barb

You might want some shoes that are OK to get wet.

I wouldn't worry about the train. Most of them have a roof . Likely many of the places you're going will also have something similar.

Weather has been weird all year. If I told you it would be nice it might just snow. It's been that sort of year.

Which weather site are you checking? Something like www.ilmeteo.it is reasonable. But if you're looking at large cities one end might be sunny. The other down pours.

Bring your Gore Tex or similar shoes. Nothing worse than wet feet and walking. Can’t tell you about the weather other than to note that it can certainly rain In Florence during the summer. Had to pull over driving once in Chianti as it poured. There are currently floods in Spain.

We had lots of rain in Rome and Bologna earlier this month. I had the right kind of shoes (closed toe, leather) but wasn’t prepared for how cold it was (50sand 60s). Had only packed a very light rain jacket and would have been better off with an actual raincoat and a sweater for the cool days. We bought umbrellas from a street vendor which kept us mostly dry. Obviously it’s a lot nicer when you have sunshine, but don’t worry, you will still have a great time despite the rain!

We had rain in Florence. The only thing that was rather unpleasant was the stroll around Boboli Gardens. We had purchased a combo ticket with the Pitti Palace in advance - otherwise we would have skipped it. The issue at the gardens was that it is hilly and there are quite a few steep places - going down I was afraid of slipping.

Our food tour was delightful, umbrellas notwithstanding...wine helps.
