Timed out while signing into online platform: Cause and Fixes

If you are greeted by the timed out while signing into online platform error, stay calm and know that it is a relatively common problem.

This particular error is related to the Activision servers, that most likely causes a timeout issue while signing into the online platform.

In the past, both PC and Xbox players have faced this error while signing into Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. This error is usually caused when the game’s servers are overloaded. Most times, you can successfully sign into the game when you wait for a few minutes and try again calmly.

But if you continue to have trouble connecting despite relaunching the game, you can try the following possible fixes:

  • Internet Connection: Firstly, check your internet connection and see if it is working properly. Also, check if something is downloading or if some program is running in the background that is slowing your connection.

  • Virtual Private Network (VPN): If you’re using a VPN or Proxy, try connecting without it.

  • Hit restart: Restarting your game client or the launcher also seems to resolve this issue most times. So always ‘end task’ in Task Manager and relaunch it to see if that has worked.

  • Steam: Close Steam and launch it again and if there is an update available, Steam will try to perform the update. If this does not solve the issue, you might need to clear your Steam Download Cache. For this, you can go to Steam settings and navigate to Downloads, and then clear the cache.

  • Drivers: Make sure that your drivers are up-to-date for your graphics card, sound card, and network card.

If none of these methods seem to have worked, you will have to contact Activision Support for further assistance regarding the error message.
