Accomodation in Split and Dubrovnik

Late to the party and feeling quite nervous. I will be in Croatia in August. I am looking for accommodation in a safe, clean place close to the old cities. Would love some recommendations. My budget is about 200-250 a night. Thanks for any suggestions.

Unfortunately you are late to the party. August is extremely busy. I have stayed at the Park Hotel in Split and it’s awesome but I just looked at a random night in August and it’s close to $400.
but plug in your dates if you want…

Hotel Luxe is nice too, and probably more in your price range.

In Dubrovnik, you should look at Airbnb or booking.com for apartments close to the city walls. I usually stay on Frana Supila, the road that runs along the sea to the Ploče gate into the old city. I’ve stayed in two nice hotels, Lero and Porto, but they are not really walking distance to the old town. Especially in the heat and traffic of August. You can also look at Airbnb and booking for Split too, of course. Just read the reviews carefully.

Thank you for your reply. I might have to do a miss on Dubrovnik. I am hearing only negative things. Oh well…next plan.

Aren’t you flying into Dubrovnik? If so, why give it a miss? I don’t think anyone here has commented negatively on it, just that it will be crowded. (So will Split.)

After a lot of research, I found a place. I always book way in advance. This is a totally different experience.

as far as the crowds go, I will be searching those cruise line websites (anybody know it?) .
i did the same thing when I was in Venice and it worked out quite well.

still looking for some day trip ideas…
