Suggestion for 5 days trip in Vancouver-Victoria-Tofino-Whistler-
Hi All,
We are a family for 4 with 2 boys (10 & 6) - we have 5 full days for our trip to Vancouver in the 1st week of July. I read through a few itineraries and I am leaning towards Tofino for sure. Thinking about 2 days in Vancouver. Not sure how to efficiently spend the rest of 3 days. We don't want to make it hectic with the kids. But we really like nature/scenic places.
Please recommend what we can choose amongst Victoria, Whistler, or any other Vancouver islands.
Thanks much,
Shilpi

Hi Shilpi,
With a 5 day limit, I would strongly urge you to limit your travels to Vancouver island. Otherwise, the associated transfers will eat up too much of your time. Whistler? No way, in that context.
I prefer Tofino to Victoria, It has a uniqueness not found in many places. Maybe also check out Ucluelet (aka Ukee), a must-see village further south from Tofino. The famous hike there could be a fun activity for your family, mind you a 6 yr old might be get tired. The nearby Ukee beach certainly will be attractive to you all, small and manageable, with a genuine shipwreck, eagles, display posters aimed at young people plus plenty of scenery.
IMHO, Chesterman beach (Chestie) in Tofino ranks as one of the finest family beaches anywhere. Dogs, driftwood and lovely sunsets. Note that the water is cold year-round.
Tip: check out nearby Cox Bay for excellent hotel restaurant meals plus great beach-combing.
Oh and one can save Money by staying at the YWCA, say in one of their triple family suites, across from the football stadium downtown. Great value in an otherwise expensive city.
Good Luck!
I am done. The end.

Keep in mind that getting to Tofino (or Ukee) will effectively take you all day. You'll need to take the ferry across (plus queuing up for it, and possibly long waits), then drive across Vancouver Island. So, a day to get there, a day there, a day to return to Vancouver. Unless, of course, you opt to fly into Tofino-Ucluelet Airport and then rent a car (if available).
As an alternative, you might like to take a trip up the Sunshine Coast. You would get to see some natural beauty unique to this area, and enjoy a couple of shorter ferry rides that the kids might really enjoy. Here's a link to check out: https://www.sunshinecoastcanada.com/
