Harry Melling Now Cast as Young Edgar Allan Poe in THE PALE BLUE EYE

Harry Potter actor Harry Mellin will play young Westpoint cadet Edgar Allan Poe in a new murder mystery. Scott Cooper is adapting Louis Bayard’s novel The Plae Blue Eye for Netflix with producers Cross Creek Pictures. Deadline reports:
The film is a passion project of Cooper, who has tried making it for more than a decade, and also stars Christian Bale as a veteran detective tasked with solving a series of murders that took place in 1830 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Bale’s detective partners with a detail-oriented young cadet (Melling), who will later become the world-famous author the world knows today.
Bale is producing alongside Cooper, John Lesher, and Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures.
Edgar Allen Poe (January 19, 1809, to October 7, 1849) was America’s first Gothic author. Before turning to literature and poetry, Poe served at West Point from July 1830 to February 1831, a term that was described as “short, yet tumultuous”. According to an article in Stars and Stropes:
Poe was court-martialed after he stopped going to class, parade, roll calls and chapel in January 1831. The following month, he was dismissed.
In addition to playing Dudley in the Harry Potter franchise, Mellin (now 32-years-old) has appeared in The Queen’s Gambit and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Upcoming projects also include The Tragedy of Macbeth and Please Baby Please.
